Michael Carrick

If they go for Glasner in the summer they want shot with shit. The only logical reason to wait until Summer is if the person they want isn’t available until then, likely because of WC commitments like Tuchel, Nagelsmann or Ancelotti.

Glasner, Iraola, Silva etc all have only 6 months left on their contracts and could quite easily be bought out now. Wasting 6 months to get one of those in the summer would be criminal.
Plus those 3 managers have a Great chance of being in World Cup semi finals, thus a final or third place play off, leaving little time between that and the start of the PL season. If that’s the intention, it’s bizarre. Chelsea have employed a rookie manager, the mags can’t defend, spurs are terrible and palace are having a massive dip, there’s a great chance for United to get 5th given all those sides have European commitments too. I’m amazed the season is getting written off in January. No other PL club would entertain Carrick or OGS, not even those at the bottom. This notion of having onto the past needs eradicating.

Crazy that United are appointing an interim manager mid season again, and it's hardly like when Chelsea were doing the same with Hiddink and Benitez, they are appointing Championship managers to do it, firstly Solskjaer and now Carrick.

There is some logic in waiting until the summer but it's practically another season being wrote off and crossing fingers hoping they finish in a decent position. New manager in now would at least assess what is needed and who/what isn't before the summer arrives.

They'll probably go for Glasner, but they should move heaven and earth for Tuchel.
If they can't handle Amorim's candidness they won't be able to deal with Tuchel.

This is a massive decision for Ratcliffe. They are supposedly also looking for another Sporting Director so not sure if that is part of the reason. Wilcox got promoted into that job after the Dan Ashworth fiasco. His only prior experience as Director of Football is 6 months in the Championship with Southampton. There is absolutely no way that a top level coach or manager will tolerate interference from a guy with 6 months Championship experience.

If they want to run the model with all major decisions being made by the football board then he needs to get in a top class Sporting Director and a coach that fits that philosophy whilst moving Wilcox back to his previous role as Technical Director.

Alternatively, shelve the new Sporting Director for now and bring in an vastly experienced manager (not coach) to steady the ship and make the big decisions. Somebody like Ancelotti with his vast experience of the media scrutiny at big clubs and premier league experience.

You just know Ratcliffe will end up falling between the two and cocking it up.

Nowt wrong with it really, he knows the club and it’s just til may when they get the person in they want. Was always going to be either him or Ole.

Ratcliffe's involvement in anything sports related isn't great tbf (unless I've missed summat?)

What exactly is it that he knows about the club that will help him perform?
Probably nothing to help him perform but as a 4 month stop gap he will just see the season out, the fans will be reasonably happy to see an old face in the dugout and they can get the man they want come may.
