He wasn’t at fault for the goal on SundayI criticised him v Leeds as he was at fault for their goal but fair play he was very good today
If he is willing to sign, then he should have a contact offer on the table tomorrow

I'm hoping that now he's shown he can cope with the Prem that a new contract will be a formality. If that what he’s capable of at this level, it’d be pretty negligent to fail to keep him. Young homegrown talent is rare as rocking horse shit for teams outside the elite.

Then loads of people were at fault then. Brobby, xhaka, alderete , Nordi. They know when to press man. If he can’t press that then we can’t press.I'm hoping that now he's shown he can cope with the Prem that a new contract will be a formality.
You can understand why they'd be reluctant to have offered a new contract before now. He'd been injured for a good while and there was no guarantee at all that he'd make the step up.
He wasn't not at fault.
He chose to press the keeper which left a large space where he should have been, which they then played through for the goal.
Maybe somebody else could have covered across, but it very much looked like he chose to continue the press when it wasn't the right choice.
It's fine percentages / small mistakes that lead to goals at this level. Do you think that RLB would want his LB pressing the GK when 1 nil up and just into the second half?
Isn't that what we do as a team though? His position was covered. Leeds passed it around the pitch far too easily. Is anyone daft enough to think Cirkin being at left back makes a Real difference to the Leeds goal? people are making far too much of it.
We fill in, we press like that - Hume and Mukiele have both done it on the other side. Last night we had Alderete and Mukiele pressing their right back at one point. Alderete also pressed in midfield high-up the pitch loads. Xhaka pressed with the forwards meaning defenders pushed in. Players drop in and fill the roles.
I was more concerned about him looking ill at ease on ball against Leeds for a while, but he was far better last night.
You could say the same about Chelsea’s goal. Xhaka went pressing and we lost the ball right in his position in CMI'm hoping that now he's shown he can cope with the Prem that a new contract will be a formality.

I might be in the minority but I think Cirkin is perfect cover for the left back position. He’s deffo worth a contract to keep him here. Whether he will accept being on the bench is another matter as Reinildho is 1st choice. From what I’ve seen of him at the Leeds and City games he’s a Premier League class player.
This isn’t true. Players switch zones all the time. Sadiki covers LB a lot when Reinildo is in the opposition box or pressingThe high press is a good tactic, but players have to press in their own zones and shape.

Your first paragraph I agree with, players switch zones all the time.I don't mean in a rigid shape, players will still get some kind of instruction as to certain areas / shape from coaches. In different phases of play, players will cover different areas.
But, Alderete will never press the keeper, neither should your LB.
Similarly, you never want Xhaka left one on one against a winger with pace.
Yes , I think it makes a huge difference. I would never want Xhaka 1 on 1 against a winger. They worked the ball around using their extra man and our players all caught in 2 minds whether to over commit or not. Also we would usually have the legs of Sadiki in there who could maybe cover a bit extra ground and nick the ball.
The high press is a good tactic, but players have to press in their own zones and shape. It's definitely a mistake and lapse in concentration / judgement by Cirkin. You won't see our LB press the keeper again all season.
It's only really acceptable imo if you are behind amd chasing the game.
That aside though, he's done well in the 2 games overall. Looks a better option than Masuaku when both are available.

It's not definitely a mistake because you nor myself nor anyone else knows how they are told to react to the ball being in certain areas. You're speaking like it's an objective fact when the reality is we don't know what the team were instructed to do when it comes to pressing. We've seen our centre halves on the edge of the opposition box multiple times this season, not limited to these but clear examples are Geertruida doing it regularly first half at Chelsea and Mukiele doing it following Tanaka in against Leeds after we'd conceded by having our press beat. If it was such a mistake that we'd pressed high you'd suspect we'd then sit off but we didn't.
That is not the only time our full back has been the highest man this season pressing, that is a fact. It's the first time it might have been noticed because it involved a goal. Doesn't mean it's the only time it happened this season.
