Picture Tribute - Memorial game Jan 1st

My dads last game was Coventry in the play off semi final, he died the day before the play off final, but I went in his memory and hes been with us all season.

My son comes to games and his match day attire includes his grandads cap.

Thoughts with you and everyone who's lost someone this year
Sorry Chunk but what a great game to be your last , getting to Wembley in the playoff final

Memorial game 1st January

Hi I’m Joanne from The Heaven Branch, we are organising a picture tribute at this game and ask for all fans help to spread the word.

We have around 100 prints of fans, club staff and former players ready to place on seats in The Roker end with the help of This is Wearside. These are on behalf of families who can’t get to the game, We are relying on people sat in those seats to help hold them up. Each picture will have the name of the fan on the back so you know who you are holding up. If you find one on your seat and don’t wish to join in please pass it on.

Those who have their own photos just take them with you to your seat. We have fans in all areas of the ground joining in.
They can be any size, most have gone for A3, A2 and a couple have made flags.

Before kick off there will be a minute applause announced, during that applause we will hold up our pictures.

Pictures are for those who have passed in the 8 years since we were last in the Premier League.

Names on the scoreboard and in program are for those who have passed in the last 12 months.

We have tried our best to get the info out so no one at the game isn’t aware what we are doing. If you know anyone who this applies to please let them know.

The Heaven Branch is a group of fans supporting fellow fans when they lose a loved one

Thanks & Merry Christmas

Mate the image of dad jumping up and down celebrating after Ballards goal will be a memory intake to the grave.

He was shattered afterwards, but meant the world to him.

His first game was a win against liverpool back in the early 50's his last was that play off game. Not a bad start and end.

That's brilliant Joanne. My dad passed away in 2002 at the age of 77 and he was as passionate Sunderland supporter as you could ever find and like many families, his support was passed down to him from his dad so I guess our recorded support goes back to the 1930's at least. There were lots of Sunderland supporters in Felling and I guess there still are.

Ive only recently picked up on the Heaven Branch and will be registering my dad soon. Its a brilliant idea and a great way to remember our gone but never forgotten supporters x.
