ID checks for away tickets

National ID cards would kill off any touting overnight but for some reason whenever this is raised people are up in arms about big brother and the state curtailling their freedom etc. Clubs could just check your ticket (bought using your loyalty points and your national ID number) at the gate. If the ID number on your ticket does not match your ID card, you don't get in. This is how its done in Poland and it works and is extremely difficult to get round. When we were there, we had to produce our passports when buying the tickets and they checked your passport number against your ticket at the turnstyle.

Most other countries have ID cards and they would also be massively helpful in stopping tax evasion and illegal cash in hand jobs etc. If you have nothing to hide then I don't see much difference between a national ID card and a passport to be honest. We all have national insurance numbers now. What's the difference?

I'm a 72 year old season card holder resident in Essex. Have had a season card for years and was going to as many away matches as possible as well as the fortnightly trek up to Sunderland. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer some 3 years ago and because of the chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery I have been unable to attend many away games in the last 3 years and my loyalty points are down to 11. It is now impossible for me to get away tickets. The current system guarantees some supporters to get to 19 away matches. It cant be right that others are guaranteed to get none.

Sorry to hear that mate. No system is perfect but ours certainly doesn't allow for situations like yours which is unfortunate. I'm an Essex exile myself, whereabouts are you?

You’ve got 18 points because you didn’t bother going much in the 3 championship seasons. Out of interest how many times you gone in the home end this season?
3 times this season in home end. I lost lots of points in the summer. Just think it’s unfair that people with less points than me get away tickets surely that’s a valid point! People with over 20 points can rack up their points people under cannot.

I’ve seen a few suggestions online about a ballot system but people are a bit naive if they honestly think the club would just allow all season card holders the opportunity to apply on a match by match basis. It would just be a massive exercise and frankly a huge pain in the arse for the ticket office staff.

If they did ever go to a ballot system, it’s almost certain that you’d need a new membership on top of your SC. You’d be asked to commit at the start of the season and then pay X for the privilege.

I can tell you now that a lot of the people who are unhappy with the present system, won’t pay for a membership. Especially if they just want to go City away etc.

People suggesting a ballot simply didn’t want to bother with games in the championship but now want a ticket for the mags, Spurs, City etc.

Under 18s are a different issue as a lot of them weren’t old enough to go say 3 years ago.

If they bring in a ballot say for under 18s only as certain people are suggesting, that could only be for people aged 14-17 as anyone under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Are people suggesting we reduce the allocation of say 3k by 300 for corporate, 300 for an under 18 ballot resulting in there b ing 2-2.4k available on the loyalty points system after taking out staff/players tickets?

I suspect it’ll get worse next season as we lose points from the 1st championship season and there were a lot of fans who didn’t go 2nd half of the Beale/Dodds season so they’ll drop even further down the chain. Those that showed loyalty and continued going during that time will be rewarded with the opportunity of going to games, potentially in higher phases.

Fans who started going regularly in the Beale/Dodds season will go from phase 3 this season to phase 1 next season as they barely lose a point in the cull at the end of this season, but they’ve built up points from Beale/Dodds season onwards and have managed to get tickets (and therefore points) in the fastest finger 1st phase 3 this season for virtually every game so they’re moving up the ladder.

Thoughts on raffle tickets? pund a ticket and in the hands of the gods.

Could even get horsepiss to do the draw in Founders Bar and live stream it.

People under 20 points have had plenty chances the last 3 seasons to pick up easy points. Funny how they weren’t too arsed about building them then but want to now we’re in the premier league.

They could have been arsed 19 times which is a decent effort.

Everyone should stop having digs at fellow fans who have clearly been committed, just to a different extent.

A lot of people seem to be just jumping in without reading the thread and rolling out the same old “if people couldn’t be arsed to go in the Championship” etc.

The entire thread has been an eye opener for me in that I had believed that the issue with passing on tickets was pretty minor so I’ve been surprised how many people actually flout the rules and see nothing wrong in doing it- “It’s my ticket so I can give it to whoever I want”..

People being outraged by ID checks is the equivalent of ship lifters complaining when CCTV is installed making their life more difficult.

The maximum number of points people can have is 90, meaning that the vast majority of fans who’ve done 1/3 of games are able to purchase a ticket as phase 2 is virtually guaranteed a ticket it seems on 35 points.

Maybe said fans taking offense should stop trying to change the clubs policy to suit their own position then…
Again, you need to read the thread, as many have said on here, including me, the current system is good for us as it allows us to access tickets via Facebook etc.

You shouldn’t be judging others by your own standards.

Just to put some perspective on this next season I lose 11, the following 15 and then 16 the 3rd year 🤦 the system we have is fine people are complaining because they can’t get ticket yet next season they won’t be as far off as the cull starts again. Even if they did 10 2 year ago and then 20 so on 20 now; don’t lose any next year and then there in the 2nd phase straight away and can start building again

So you fully agree that people with no points and sometimes not even a season card are standing in our away end.

Many on here disagree with you but it’s all about opinion.

But everyone ( or the majority) will have lost points in the summer, it’s just the way it works. I agree with you that the passing on shouldn’t happen but it’s nowhere near as big as what people on here who can’t get tickets make it out to be. Otherwise you would surely be able to get your hands on one. Not trying to be an arse as it’s more a general point but you’re probably averaging 5/6 aways per season in the championship when they were easy to get and build points but now we are back in the premier league you’ve made the effort to go into 3 home ends already this season.

I didn’t have under 20 points last season. I just think it’s unfair some people with less points than me are getting to go. People on this thread have even admitted they just give their points to branches to keep getting topped up. Pleased spot checks are taking place. It’s been exploited for far too long.
