Luke O'Nien

Got into a massive fight in the pub with the lads I drink with. They are onien cultists like a lot of safc fans are, and cannot handle any criticism of him. It is really, really, bizarre. It shows how populists like trump get elected, by people who can't think critically and get fooled by personality and don't look beyond the superficial.

Onien was directly responsible for us conceding 8-9 goals last season, and a similar number the season before. He's nowhere near good enough for the premier league, but he's getting minutes as we are short during afcon.

I downed my pint and stormed out and walked to the next pub and sat by myself, can't be bothered with people.
You do realise that neither side is based in 100% fact, you are both coming from a subjective viewpoint which may have been influenced by many things.

I don’t think he’s a PL player but I don’t think Neil or Patterson are either. To be fair it’s why they aren’t playing and why when Diarra is back one of them will drop off the bench.

I think Rigg has time to develop so he will stick around.

Bad pass from Enzo doesn’t help him, but it’s a bad tackle. Shame because he’s out for two afcon games now and he can’t score the winner against the Mags.

More than 9 mins at this level ?
It seems a stretch to le bris mind doesn't it !
I think you should be out manager instead and belittle more of our players who the coaching and managerial staff think are good enough.
What the fuck are you talking about you silly prick? Nobody’s suggesting I manage the team but that doesn’t mean I can’t recognise somebody’s ability and limitations. The only person who gets belittled here is you.

There’s no evidence that Le Bris thinks O’Nien is good enough to play at this level. Bringing him on as a stoppage time sub in two games isn’t an indicator of confidence in a player. We have a lot of players who aren’t good enough at this level, which is why we bought a load of new players and clearly need more. Sadly it’s not a surprise that O’Nien is one of them.

I’d love to see the bloke do well but so far he couldn’t have fucked it any harder if he tried.

09 was a mainstay last season
His name was down before Ballard.
He has adapted and been a great player at every stage. He was easily one of our best players last season consistently.

Now that some people have seen him for what, nine minutes in the prem league , after months out injured and having played no competitive football for months, some folk like you come to the ridiculous conclusion, imo, that he's not good enough for this level.
The lack of faith in le bris by people like you who sees 09 in training and obviously has faith in him at this level means fuck all to you.

Its just lazy as fuck.
I trust le bris and what he sees more than you mate. So your opinion after 9 minutes of watching 09 , not match fit , playing at this level for the first time is turgid.
Imo of course

Id think most reasonable people would trust that le bris sees he can play at this level - it's why he's picked
Id think most reasonable people would see that 09 has adapted at every stage
Id think most reasonable people would wait and see him play a bit more at this level before coming to your conclusion that he's not good enough to get anywhere near this team.

He will deffo get more minutes at this level. Definitely.
most fans and the owner want us to push on to the next level playing these types of players will take us 2 steps back we wil attract quality , o nein , neil and the rest of last seasons squad will be fazed out a guarentee and will be replaced by european standard player

The 3 you mention are a million miles away from being good enough. 09 has done great to get us here, but he was never going to cut it at this level.

Rigg your right, there's a possible top player in this lad.

100%
Takes a bit of time. But 100% that 09 plays in quite a few more games this season

Unless @Sarnie takes over as manager as he knows more than le bris. Without watching any training etc

Unless we are relegated this season, I do believe that was Luke's last first team game for us.

It was a shame that it had to end on a sour note.

We’ll be strengthening in January which I think will spend the end of LoN. Great servant but he isn’t a PL player and the club will be ruthless, if you stand still with recruitment you’ll move backwards quickly in this league.

I love the lad but it’s things like yesterday that contribute to the perception that he isn’t a serious premier league player.

The view is he is Mr Sunderland and will be effectively a glorified cheerleader this season.

Getting sent off for a ridiculous tackle in the 93rd minute when 3-0 down and it’s only your second small chance of the season to play isn’t going to change that perception. He didn’t help himself yesterday.

Even Nick Barnes has had a pop at him. Thats when you know its poor

People are going on ridiculous about it. Move on. It's a mistimed attempt to clear the ball on the stretch. Way people are going on you would think hed gone out to do nunes. Reinildos kick out at 0 - 0 vs villa was much stupider. Both have made a mistake it happens. He might not be good enough for this level and it was poor, but the reaction is ridiculous
