Stokes will genuinely believe they can win. In the past, he’d have been able to make the players believe with him.

I think some of them are starting to question the tactics now, Root especially. In the huddle there he looked like he wanted to be anywhere else. Some of them will know that if the current set up goes, then they will too.

But the like of Archer, Root, Duckett, Jacks & possibly Atkinson would stand a chance in a normal test team.

Their test careers are being wasted by the set up.
