ID checks for away tickets

I ageee mate but how many people pull out last minute, passing a ticket on to help out a fellow supporter legit isn’t worthy of banning someone.
Probably not many. And probably not the same people....pretty unusual event I would imagine. However how many are buying to recycle points? Probably quite a lot from my observation and experience.

Good on the club for doing this....a minor bit of inconvenience to bring some valid ID and possibly have a spot check so that more fans who have accumulated points can rightfully access tickets.

For thoe who have misuse the system this ssseason and last, case of chickens coming home to roost. Great job by the club 👏
Of course!

A lot of folks (like me) don't carry a wallet. And even if I did my pink, paper, photo-less, driving licence wouldn't fit in it...🙄

Putting this out the night before stinks.
Do you carry a phone? Take a photo of your driving license.

Best time to do it, night before.

There's a time point at which clubs have to declare the sales to the home club, and return unsold tickets. That's usually a couple of days before the match. Ticket office staff don't work on weekends when we're away., and any problems need to be raised before lunchtime on Friday if there's a need to duplicates to be available at the opponent's ticket office. Anyone falling ill or having a family emergency close to the match can't get the club to resell it - the club have no way to get that ticket on sale.
Tells you everything you need to know about our ticketing setup that they fail to even have skeleton staff on or leading to a matchday.

Theyre so out of touch its unreal.

It’s completely the correct thing to do and I hope it’s enforced beyond random spot checks to be honest. I’m big on paper tickets, football, gigs, the lot but unfortunately I think going digital will be the way to do this. Ban forwarding and only the account holder gets to use the ticket and if you can’t then it has to go back to the club. In the Spurs thread I mentioned I know a lot of people on my bus that go to plenty away games and have none or very few points. They get tickets through another branch but they’ve got less than me on 17, it’s absolutely happening all over. I get folk just wanting to go to the game and have a day out and so getting tickets however they can but I think you should have to build your own points up to go. Was a young lad started where I used to work, Sunderland daft and he goes every single week, asked him how many points he must have and he said oh about 4, I have a mate who just sorts it out🤷🏻‍♂️. If this gets enforced properly it’ll bring the phase brackets right down imo as all these people that just farm their ticket out are either going to have to start going to the games they can’t be arsed with or just not buy their tickets which would lower the phase brackets and give more people a chance

Genuine question,

From now on if these ID checks become the norm, can someone on high loyalty points buy a ticket for a child, brother, family member, friend etc with hardly any as a gift if they can’t make the match?

Been even better had they let people know they’re doing it. Sneaking the emails out on Friday night is pretty crap whatever way you look at it.

I’ve found out about it at 7am at wetherby already on the way over. The mrs has no physical id on her. We’d be knackered had we been picked. Club really need to think stuff through a bit

Someone argued on here they’d “earned” their tickets and can give to who the hell they like. Poor.

Saying that im a complete hypocrite as on 6 points ill gladly take anybodies away ticket.

Whole communication process is dogshit and has been for some time.

Handed it back to the club so the ticket could’ve went unused? Rather than give it to someone who wanted to go. A reserve list is used if people fall ill, can’t attend for whatever reasons. I’m glad I didn’t get a ticket for today as due to personal reasons I wouldn’t make it (last minute)
I have a ticket for today and can't go as ill.
I've given it to someone else rather than have it unused
Hopefully we won't get banned

Genuinely find it incredible that people are supporting this sort of petty heavy-handedness that they know will inconvence genuine fans on the off-chance that it catches out someone passing a ticket on to someone else, knowing that the number of people actually going themselves will far outnumber anyone passing a ticket on, never mind anyone passing a ticket on unfairly.

For context, I've been to every single away game this season and I'm going today. I put my number in sometimes on the basis that I'm not 100% sure I can go, but I want to and I will if I can. I've done this for Brighton. If I can't go (something that happens maybe one or two games a season) then I make sure it goes to someone I know is a fan. I'd even do this formally through the club if I had to, but they've brought this measure in without any facility to do this.

Same with Brighton. I think I can go, but fuck it, I’ll let them go to waste if I can’t make it.

For context - even the Mags (and I reckon everyone agreed this was bad when they introduced it) allow you to transfer tickets twice a year to someone in your network up to 5 hours before kickoff

Absolutely gutted about this. Granted I don’t have enough points to apply myself however for around 6 games this season me and my little boy have been offered tickets for away games at face value. He absolutely loves going and looks like he won’t be able to go anymore. I get that people are claiming points but from the other side I couldn’t care a less as I’m just grateful to experience away games with the little one

100% agree. The only people who dont are those on mega points via farming, or the occasional tourist who fancies a day out. Those that will benefit are those trying to build points...late teens into the 20s

Don't really mind this.

Away tickets are on lockout for the foreseeable future.

If the same 3k people are going to get the tickets with no one else having a chance, it's only fair to try to ensure those are the people actually attending the game.

Suggestions like having a small percentage of tickets held back for a ballot etc are mer with even more scorn, I feel for young lads just coming of age now who won't have the chance to experience away games with their mates.

I'm sure back in the day you used to be able to apply for tickets, they'd dish them out based on loyalty points, but you'd still get a point for applying. They should think about something like that because in a few years time they are going to have 3k people on 60 points and everyone else on zero.
Im fortunate to be on 75 points but have done the miles to get them but I do feel we need to allocate say 10% to those on sub 20 points via a ballot, otherwise it will become a closed shop and deny a generation of supporters the opportunity to get to away games.
