League One Clowns - Where Are They Now?

Loads of the away teams fans visiting the sol in L1 seemed to be bitter and small time as fuck mind, with the occasional exception like Bristol Rovers. Absolutely weird behaviour, our mere existence seemed to enrage these people. They'd spend the whole game singing about Adam Johnson and other anti Sunderland stuff rather than backing their own side.
But it literally was just a big day out for them. Loads of those fans probably didn't go to a single other of "their" teams games that season. One or two mates actually support them team, but 10-15 of their pals come along for the weekend in Newcastle and tag on the match. Probably support Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal etc. but never go watch them either.
I lived in Newcastle at the time, and you'd always see them out on the piss after the match in Pop World or whereever.

All heard the various anti-sunderland songs on twitter and thought it was a right laugh.

It'd be the same for the home games. Most abusive sets of home fans you'd ever get were in League One - all their for their big day out once a season. Those home attendances literally doubled for this one game, back to the usual couple of thousand for the game after.

At least every PL fan you see genuinely backs their team home and away, because it's impossible to get a ticket otherwise.

Unforgettable. And was it just me or did their fans down at their place seem like the biggest village idiots of the lot?
I was there when they beat us 2-0 in Ross’ last game in charge and they went on like massive knobheads outside afterwards, seen one of our fans on his own get punched from behind by one of theirs then a group of them set upon him when he was on the floor, took a group of our fans stepping in for them to stop. Police etc no where to be seen either. I’ve always said Portsmouth were the worst out the lot in my experiences, closely followed by Coventry and Luton.

Can remember the Lincoln fans singing they seen us cry on the tele, our fans responded that they’ve never been on the tele 🤣

The Wycombe situation in 2020 was an absolute disgrace and I will never ever forget it. Loads of those little tinpot clubs revelled in the plight of my football club, fuck them all I say.
One of the worst parts of league one wasn't the football, surprisingly enough. It was clubs, players and fans doing everything mentioned by the OP, playing against us like it was their cup final and claiming we weren't their cup final. You could tell a mile off that we were the scalp everyone wanted by the way they went on.

We kept getting told that no club 'has the right' to be in PL. That is true to some extent, but the history, fan base and resources of Sunderland eventually gained traction and oh look, we find ourselves in the PL.

They probably don't even think about us anymore tbf but that's understandable when you have the worries of desperately trying to make up the numbers of lower league football.
Then the financial disparity constantly getting brought up. In relative terms we shouldn’t even be competing with Arsenal, Chelsea, the mags …. They should beat us without breaking sweat given they’ve been spending money like a drunken sailor for the last 5 years whilst we began that period in league one.

Speaking of being treated as their cup final, Rochdale issued a commemorative mug on match day vs. us in 2019.

@HarrogateMackem posted SMB thread in 2021 about getting one of these mugs (had become a collectors' item by then). Did you find one?

Given how well we are doing, it's a good time to check in and see how the clubs and fanbases that went on like complete and utter idiots during our League One days are doing.

Wigan - "stole" Charlie Wyke from us as they were a bigger club IIRC. The payment issues were just "administrative errors". Funny how that bloke hasn't posted on here in about 3 years. Currently 17th in League One.

Wycombe - "this is our house and you play by our rules". Remember that clown? 11th in League One.

Rotherham - team full of ex-Mags who loved nothing more than wheeling out the Shearer celebration. Wonder if they're still at it as the score to drag themselves up to their current position of 13th in League One?

Peterborough - The club who Darragh MacAnthony used to make up nonsense about turning down a (non existent) massive bid for one of their players from us in every single transfer window. Not sure he can do that any more now we're signing players like Xhaka. 21st in League One and heading for relegation.

Accrington Stanley - abandoning a game and then charging our fans again to attend to take advantage of and rip a few quid off our superb away support. Now 17th in League Two! Surprised they didn't do more with the extra cash.

Oxford - Karl Robinson calling the police. Enough said.

Portsmouth - one of the most horrible worst sets of supporters you will ever find. And that Marcus bloody Harness.

And a special mention to:

Luton - who could forget Luton? That bloke who was coming on here with his "Prem Update" thread, only to them end up back in League One whilst we look comfortable in the Premier League, having accumulated more points in 13 games than they got in 29 and we are now just 4 points off their entire PL season total with 25 games to play. They're just outside the League One playoffs now, so maybe "The Kenny" will be fortunate enough to witness Championship football again next season.

There was a time when this place was infested by fans on the above clubs. Funny how we haven't heard from any of them in quite a while.

The cream always eventually rises to the top.

And yes, I am bitter and no, I won't move on.
f***ing awesome 👌

It was the football in a lot of cases like, can still remember at home to Gillingham and they were taking long throws into our box for near enough the halfway line….could mention a few more who done that sort of shite but Gillingham were the worst for me
So be Gillingham were ahead of their time! Long throws all the rage now.

Assuming the Sheff Utd owner doesn’t buy you first

What the fuck is that all about by the way?
bloody deluded idiot, only thing me and me Blades mates agree about...No idea where he was coming from...its all part of the banter, both clubs are unlikely to do owt special without doing what Newcastle and City have done, so we would rather have the parochial crap that a Sheffield deby brings...even after last week...I love the rivalry
