There wasn’t the gulf between the likes of Celtic/Rangers and the top English clubs as there is now. Probably not that much difference in terms of money either

There wouldn't have been many clubs who would have been able to afford the transfer fee at the time.

I think I've heard him say he turned down 3 offers from English clubs (including Liverpool) a few years before he decided to make the move.

He down plays his importance in the aftermath of Hillsborough but he genuinely brought comfort and forged an unbelievable togetherness between the families and the club.
Comes across as a cracking bloke imo
