Northern trains

No dig, I just probably was clear the trains on the Northumberland Line are all contained so they only need to double up the 3 trains and you've dealt with it.

Whereas the Durham Coast isn't so you might have one on the way to Sunderland but after the game it's in Carlisle or Whitby so you need a lot more.

Btw I live on the line and according to the local resident groups it was an absolute shit storm last Saturday with not only them all 2 car, half of them were cancelled. It's much of the same tbh regardless to the PR they stick out.

It's a good thing that the Northumberland Line is proving popular, reduces car use. The same applies to the Durham Coast line..
By allowing the overcrowding they are turning away customers, or at least putting them off.

It's just a shame that it's not possible to run a circular service linking up major cities within the region, Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, ok Thornaby, Darlington, Durham but congestion on the ECML stops that.

Not sure what the answer is to peak time overcrowding on certain routes at certain times just hope better brain's than mine are at least looking at it, but I'm not sure they are.

Aye agreed, to be honest the whole ECML is a mess.

North of Newcastle is much of the same (living in Northumberland). It's shocking how places like Cramlington get one train an hour and Widdrington, 2 trains per day.

Commuting between the stations is a nightmare aswell as one train stops at Alnmouth, the other at Berwick and then the other at Morpeth. No use for going between them though.

It's a shame there's not more push for local rail as the whole region sucks really and in reality it's literally turned into a fight who gets a carriage which is so wrong since there's not enough.

Did they not recently open a Newcastle to Ashington line, with two trains an hour? Dont know who would want to go to Ashington, but I think I read that they are planning other "commuter" stops along the line in the future

Yeah I live on it but it took way too long. It's doing well tbh, it's more about connecting people to Newcastle and beyond more than the other way round though. No-one wants to go to Ashington (bar maybe college locally).

Sadly it's blighted by cancellations and short trains though, like everything else up here.

4 carriages: 10:37, 11:38, 13:37
All others 2 carriages pre match from Thornaby

20:06 and 21:06 both 4 carriages after the game 😦

Northern spoiling us rotten today!

I’m considering staying somewhere for fri-Sunday on the coast for the match against Bournemouth. It’s easy enough to be dropped off and collected at thornaby if we stay at saltburn or Marske or even further afield (Whitby?).

Does it take about 20 mins to walk from Sunderland station to the SOL?

Less than 20 with the new bridge mate 😎

20 minutes max aye but mainly because of the bottleneck - previously at Hay Street, now at Easington Street to shuffle on to the new bridge. Pre-match or once the crowds have settled post-match it's 10 minutes max.

After Wolves I was back at the station 5:20 and even then it always takes forever to get out the ground cos I'm right at the back, if you're in a row closer to the exit you could shave 5 minutes off that easy.
