Club loan taken out

Banks see football clubs as a bad credit risk, so few are prepared to lend at all, and those that do give them junk bond ratings.

Rightly so, many of them are a disaster zone financially. Even the ones with giant incomes like Man U end up in huge amounts of debt.

Realistically, not many of us on here will understand the in's and out's of corporate finance and even fewer of how Premier league manages financial distribution. We're best off looking at more practical signs of financial health...are we investing in squad and infrastructure? -absolutely . Are we looking at fire sales of players? - absolutely not. Have we got a bloated squad of high earners who will offer nothing on the pitch or transfer fees - not at all.

There is nothing remotely concerning coming from the club apart from the club other than an out of context line of credit.

Not sure when the club accounts are out but I've just read an article with the following quotes:

Finance expert Adam Williams has shed some light on the position Sunderland find themselves in from a commercial perspective, and how success will only breed success for the Black Cats from here on out.

Williams said: “Sunderland have a lot going for them – and that’s mainly thanks to their fans. They’ve got a massive, highly engaged fanbase. That delivers commercial income. They generated £16m in annual commercial income at the last count, which was quadruple what they earned in the first year following Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’ takeover.

“The mood music I’m hearing is that, under business chief David Bruce, they are set to post a very impressive set of financial results in 2024/25. And in 2025/26, the finances are going to boom ever further.”

I'm not surprised with that analysis. I alone must have spent around £5000 on shirts and merchandise over the last couple of seasons. The Hummel gear has been that good.

It's only a matter of time before we see a Mackem in Miami
(where we play Real Madrid friendly)

“The mood music” ffs.

He’s made it sound like he’s got some inside info.
24/25 - widely reported our best year for kit sales in a generation.
25/26 - PL money.

You don’t have to be a financial guru to guess that😂😂

I imagine gate receipts have jumped, too, this season with not only the high attendances but also the additional hospitality we now have. That Banks place must be a real money spinner, with tickets around £10k a season.

Fewer matches though, which may offset any increase slightly.

Would love to see any breakdown anyone can point me to on this. Clubs like Arsenal and Spurs make millions each year from matchday revenue, we'll be miles off but I expect are getting better.

So, now its borrowing money to gamble with. That is normally the way to financial ruin

Gambling is dangerous enough without borrowing the money to gamble.

Your scenario may mean that the extra 3 places higher ( if it happens) pays off the cost of the loan, it doesn't however replace the money you have spent now, so you do not have it for next season. The club will not earn enough money to pay the cost of the loan and to replace the funds it has taken early

You can't spend the same pot of money twice. If it is spent this season, then there is a shortfall in the money for next season
How would you have done/do it then genius. Start with the Le Fee/Watson/Bellingham transfers if you like. As many people have said, KLD has an army of people around him that deal in billions and don’t seem to lose many of them!!
This is the problem with the internet. People think they know everything and have the right to. Then get their knickers in a twist about nowt.

Imagine bitd people in pubs around Wearside debating “I heard Tom Cowie has taken out a new loan! What does it mean?” 🤣
Now we’re in fantasy land.. Cowie, loans?? The fucker dropped a penny in the old club shop and when he bent to pick it up , it hit him on the back of his head! 😉
What will Dembele cost these days?
2 tickets to 76 yards and an extra pie should do it

All the mags at my work must have been wide of the mark when they said we were fucked financially - what a surprise.

Would've been worried about a loan two or three years ago.
Not now, seems sensible with premier league money coming in.
A couple of squad additions perhaps?
