Loads of times I’ve priced up villas but just can’t be bothered to do all the driving.![]()
I've been over there 3 times now. First time I stayed in a hotel on international drive. It was before Uber was popular, and I was under 25 so couldn't get a hire car without it doubling the cost of the holiday. Getting the 3 buses to the parks was an absolute nightmare, so I swore never again. We have done villa's the other times, but the second time we stayed at Disney Port Orleans for 2 nights first because the villa we wanted wasn't available for those two days. That was just the 2 of us and it was fine, the transport around the site was obviously a massive benefit, but I quickly got sick of the food. This time we will have our daughter in tow. She is 4 at the minute, so will be 5 or maybe 6 by the time we go. We've stayed at other hotels and sharing a room is a pain, basically once she is going to bed that is it, lights out and sit quietly. In a villa she has her own room. We also have our own pool for the weekend days where we are at the parks less. I have priced it up and from that linked villa an uber is £11 to Disney Springs each way, so I could do that some days if I want to have a beer while out, or I can drive if I want. Driving over there really doesn't bother me at all and it's not the kind of holiday where you drink everyday. For us a villa wins every time, but I fully understand why others prefer the Disney hotels. I am going to task my wife with finding the best way to do food. We were at the Disney Paris Hotel last month and being able to book all the character dining was much better than queuing to see characters, my daughter met all the main princesses multiple times in the 3 days we were there.
TL DR : summary - load of waffle from me, I even bored myself typing it
When the wife worked in travel and we went all the time (9/10 times) until 2014ish we always stayed on i drive and walked to universal or seaworld to get the lynx bus to Disney TTC it was a way to blow the cobwebs of late nights at oshucks or millers ale house away. Enjoyed the public buses or sometimes even the strangers cars that used to pull up and take you to Epcot for $1pp. Only hired a car on one trip which was when we down Miami and the keys for a few days.
Then we had years off until recently and went last year and this year with the kids and stayed in LBV in the Rosen. Cheap and cheerful and ideal location. Still no car needed as could walk to Disney springs and the lynx bus to TCC, or Uber if wanted to be at parks early for less than $10.
Now we’re having a year off with all the construction going on we are pricing up new ideas. Villa is always one we look but hiring, driving and paying parking seems like a headache. The drury comes up with its free buses, we know family who’ve stayed and a poster on here always recommends it. The wife then throws in CBR as a place to stay as has skyliner access but I’ll be honest the price puts me well off.

Aye, booking character dining is basically just buying a fast pass for character meetsbook all the character dining was much better than queuing to see characters, my daughter met all the main princesses multiple times in the 3 days we were there.
Drury bloke is me. What do you need to know mate? The drury comes up with its free buses, we know family who’ve stayed and a poster on here always recommends it.
Its $30 just to park at the TTC now!we found a taxi rank and paid $35 back to the hotel on international drive. That was in 2009 I think so while times have changed, I am still a bit scarred by that and would rather my own transport![]()
I don't think I'd bother at all anymore. Parking charges at the parks, the hotels and the cost of them in general just makes Uber easier and cheaperWould never goto Florida, or the US for that matter (excluding Vegas/New York!) without a car. It's a doddle mate.
And it's basically free with a dining plan, except for you usually have to put up with a buffet instead of a proper table service.Aye, booking character dining is basically just buying a fast pass for character meets
There's so much stuff around Vegas to see, I'd even want a car there.Would never goto Florida, or the US for that matter (excluding Vegas/New York!) without a car. It's a doddle mate.
I’ve had cars in states before but just don’t feel the need for one when we visit Disney. I guess that’ll change if we go down bills route.Would never goto Florida, or the US for that matter (excluding Vegas/New York!) without a car. It's a doddle mate.
Suppose if you are just going to/from the parks is maybe ok, but we like to drive all over the place and it's just too convenient! Parking charges are usually covered (we make sure before booking the hotels) but charges at the parks are mental, just gotta suck it up tho and as we come and go all day/night from the parks it doesn't seem too bad I suppose.... on a 14 night break, we tend to go 5-6 days in the parks, hopping around, then travel around a bit.I don't think I'd bother at all anymore. Parking charges at the parks, the hotels and the cost of them in general just makes Uber easier and cheaper

Only the very big and historic cities over there (NY, Chicago, SF) are worth going to without a car.

I had a car in Vegas as that was where we flew into before started our trip around California and into Mexico and back.Florida is agree. But I’ve been to Vegas and New York and I definitely didn’t think I was missing out not having one there.

Well yes, if you are travelling more than just Vegas having a car is essential, I stayed in the one place and was easy able to walk up and down the strip. I think we got a taxi to Fremont Street and that was about it.
Aye. We’ve just walked in Vegas. Think took the deuce bus to Fremont before back in 06. Once there was enough and never been back to Fremont.Well yes, if you are travelling more than just Vegas having a car is essential, I stayed in the one place and was easy able to walk up and down the strip. Nice too see you back on the thread.Place is just a money pit

Walking the strip seems fine until you've been walking for 20 minutes and the place you're going still seems exactly as far away as it was when you started. Very deceptive due to the size of thingsWell yes, if you are travelling more than just Vegas having a car is essential, I stayed in the one place and was easy able to walk up and down the strip.
