SOL expansion

Could be wrong, but looking at the upper tier, the terracing looks deeper & taller than that below, hence less rows & less seats?

Steeper angles due to the sight lines needing to be different. Interestingly my long standing belief that the actual walkway in the lower bowl being on a slight incline to allow for drainage is proven correct by that drawing.

A single tier with no boxes and a big window at the back or two levels of boxes right at the back of a single tier would look good I reckon.

Could be loosing around 500,000 a year with the segregation.
There'll be segregation and empty seats wherever the away fans are.

At the minute there's segregation down the west side of away fans in the north upper and segregation in the form of empty seats along the front of the north upper. No segregation needed to the east of the north upper as the stand ends.

If they moved the away fans to the north lower, for example, they'd need to keep segregation to the west of the away fans and also introduce segregation to the east of the away fans. There are more rows in the lower bowl to segregate too. There would likely be more seats available than in the current setup, but wouldn't be a case of having 1k extra seats and an extra £500k each match.

I’d be shocked if the club has even approached SAG about those seats mind mate. I suspect they will remain empty for the foreseeable future
Noted watching the Liverpool Man Utd game you have the away fans overlooked above by home fans. Saudis we know about. Must be loads where there is that potential for hurling missiles down below.

I know we've had that history and why those seats are empty but unfortunately in league 1 I think we suffered from the village idiots day out being the biggest club by far in that league and we're still paying for it now.....

Needs to be looked at now. I'd be staggered if any fan of a PL club threw anything down, Newcastle included

we need to open them up now, everyone else does ffs..... its 1k seats+ revenue down the pan

I understand concerns about the sheepfolds development potentially causing issues about the South stand being expanded in the future, but wouldn’t a better plan be to expand the East stand so it’s a mirror image of the West Stand, extra boxes and corporate in the new upper tier, I would guess the new capacity would be about 580000, and how much better would the ground look both from the outside and inside, and when the building work is being done make the current concourse wider, in fact much wider.

I was thinking the same for any concerts at the stadium the stage is at the South stand end so the South stand seats aren't used a extended East stand with a much wider concourse than the West stand for hospitality would be much better.

Maybe it can be mentioned at the next RAWA meeting? As to why we aren’t using them and if there’s plans to.

The seats at the front aren’t being used as its part of the security protocols put in place after the club got bollocked by SAG.

The club could push to reopen them but if anything does get thrown, the club will be told to shift the away fans into the NEC.

As said earlier, we are paying the price for the previous regimes utterly appalling management of the away end in L1.

It comes down to the risk appetite of the club. At best, those empty seats are costing us c£570k a year. If, however, we reopen them and something is thrown, the club are likely looking at a bill of a couple of million to shift the aways into the NEC.

Moving the away fans is going to be a huge issue if we have to do it or choose to do it.

The season ticket holders that get displaced are basically going to have to be told to sit where the away fans are now.

100% mate and it’s a major reason why the club are probably happy to accept the empty seats.
