Sunderland railway station.

40 minutes to get from Doxford Park to the train station? 🤣

You don’t half post some ill-informed, anti Ciry of Sunderland rubbish on here - and you’ve been doing it for years.

25 minutes on the bus, 5 minutes walk to the bus stop, 5 minutes wait for the bus, 5 minute walk from John Street to the station.

Sorry to disappoint you...

No bus stop from doxy park is a 5 minute walk. 2 minutes max and you don't need to arrive 5 minutes before it gets there either.

That just one of the options.

The other routes are just as long (4 / whatever GNE number it is this week).

It's what my point is about you need to deal with the public transport issues locally first since you've got no demand from the East as it's the sea.

imo instead of looking at long distance stuff you'd be better looking at shorter journeys to a hub South so you don't have to double back ie. Grand Central hourly between York and Sunderland which would benefit Hartlepool aswell and work with Tees Valley to deal with the shambles that's Stockton, so they benefit from it aswell rather than it being at Eaglescliffe, in the middle of nowhere. There probably is the demand there but you need Tees Valley's backing.

How about taxis or cars? The station now has a decent size car park (long, long needed).

Better regional links would be useful but the priority for the City is more direct national rail connections. I know you don’t want that for Sunderland - and we’ll have to fight against the PTE being made up of blinkered mags which hate our city - but we’ll get there.

He's a complete berk mate. Always negative about anything and everything everything Sunderland especially over his beloved Tyneside
Zimba absolutely detests the city of Sunderland

Meanwhile his beloved Newcastle-Gateshead can’t stop their infrastructure from quite literally crumbling
It's the absolute pits around there. Best avoided by any means. Where as Sunderland with its great planning with rings roads and main roads in and out are a dream

That car comparison is just wrong, unless you live within walking distance of the station (which not many people do).

For someone from somewhere like Doxford Park you've got to add another 40 minutes plus interchange or a taxi / car parking fares.

That's why for someone like that it makes more sense to go to Durham as it's only 5 minutes longer by car, has a huge car park and you save 40 minutes on the train aswell.
It takes about 15 minutes to drive to the town from Doxford Park and get parked up.

Aye that was a public transport comparison, if you were using the car you'd probably be tempted to just car all the way to York. I know I would it's not that far really. London is a different question though.

Btw I never said Grand Central is dead, if they can get more paths no complaints from me just it's more it's not going to happen when you've got Hull, Teesside and Lincoln fighting for the same trains.

Fight for something you can get rather than fighting for the impossible. There's too many politicians who would love your option because they can just claimed, 'they tried'.

Yeah no arguments, it was a public transport comparison, since it was about comparing to driving to York.

A - getting more direct rail connections is far from impossible. The Mayor already agrees it’s needed.

B - it wasn’t a ‘public transport question’ - it was about getting the train to York.

C - you’re either deliberately trying to offend people from Sunderland or you are incredibly tone deaf.

D - your views on rail in Sunderland are utterly, utterly worthless to me.

How many times, it isn’t going to happen.

Not only is the demand not there, but what absolutely plays into the decision-making is the fact that there are 6 direct trains an hour to the regional hub station. There’s your link to the rest of the country.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

You need to try harder mate. That’s weak.

There is massive untapped demand for national rail travel from Wearside that can inky be unlocked by direct connections and (more importantly) the ongoing economic development of the city is contingent on significantly expanded direct connections. Currently, the absence of these is a significant hurdle to attracting businesses into our city centre - we have to address this.

If you're getting offended then that's on you. Nothing I've said is factually incorrect and two of the things have already happened (M&S closure and arena not happening).

You might are think my views on rail are irrelevant but absolutely zero local or national transport plans have anything about extra long distance trains to Sunderland station.

In fact national ones actually say the polar opposite since they treat the railway as a hub and spoke network and Sunderland is a spoke for that station that can't be said. There's your reason why the 'mag infested' PTE isn't backing you up.

10 mins in a taxi

Aye no arguments, the original post I replied to was about car vs train and one of their points was the train was better because of parking costs. Obviously using a taxi wipes that out.

Earliest I can get into London from Sunderland is 09:40, and that’s putting you faith in the metro timetable.

First Northern train to Newcastle is 07:08

The transport plan point is because of the fact that our regional one was written by mags!

The ‘hub and spoke’ model might work for airports, but I’ve never seen any credible industry paper which considers it appropriate for rail.

Anyway, I’m leaving this for now.

I really don’t understand why you come on to a Sunderland message board and regularly post anti-Sunderland garbage. You must really need the attention.

You like to annoy people on multiple threads I see.

Very sad man.
