Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Good job old Phil is not on a HS2 thread, he would have exploded by now
Some people really don’t like being reminded of facts, do they? :D

HS2 was a complete disaster in terms of VfM and, well, obviously, actually achieving what was intended. I’ve actually been involved in some rail civils work and that’s a whole different scale of padded costs, connections, exorbitant fees and accepting mediocrity than the current case of the Wear bridge being completed later than the Council had said it would be!

Frustrated at the pearl-clutching that has come out from a small number of posters today after simply highlighting facts?

These quotes from you aren't facts -

"The project has been on a go-slow for months"

"It's quite likely the process could have been streamlined"

"The rate of progress has been poor and that'll be down to poor procurement and poor practice"

You've been challenged on them and took a hissy fit

Hissy fit? 🤣

It’s a discussion forum. Some people just don’t like to be challenged.

The Council have attempted to walk back from their earlier target completion timeframe of ‘Summer 2025’ (which obviously those involved in the project - I appreciate that you’re not - have been only too keen to get in behind) but I can see exactly what they’re doing and if the discussion helps others realise what has happened then that is a good thing for transparency and accountability.

I’m sure you would agree that those are laudable aims?

It will be open on derby day , the mags want to use it 😉
Knowing Northumbria Police they will open it exclusively for the mags for their ease and we will have to walk across Wearmouth Bridge, past St Peter’s and Monkwearmouth Station to get to the stadium. They will also block pavements with police vans to make it even more difficult and shove you away with extreme force into the road if you get too close to them.

I think they're turning the new bridge into some kind of Fan Zone for them , free food and such, Sam Fender live ( we're paying). St Marys car Park is also cordened off for their exclusive use

"Earmarked" wasn't it?
Just an estimation then.

aye. you

you post unsubstantiated nonsense about them being on a 'go slow' and claim that its a fact.
That was substantiated on (a) observations (b) has been backed up earlier in this thread by another poster who commented that there were not many people on site in recent weeks (as backed up by him chatting to security guards) and (c) the fact that it is no longer ‘Summer’!

(Also (d) - we were told when the bridge opened for the RWC in August that there were only ‘cosmetic’ works remaining to be complete. We’re now in October.

There is an imbalance of information here you know. Outsiders have limited recourse to information - and a lot of the info that is made public will have, let’s say, a PR ‘polish’.

On this last point (d), there was a BBC News article last week noting that there still isn’t a fixed completion date available publicly!

I get it - you work in the industry and you might not like transparency and accountability (I noticed you ignored that point in my previous post) but I think it is essential when it comes to public bodies spending public money.

Some bloke I know always says there is only one man and his dog working on the bridge.

He's old, bald and rotund.

Ignoring the fact again that we were told it was going to be Autumn because they're doing cosmetic and safety finishes
