Again though what is that based on? I don’t think any multi million pound construction project gets to a case where they are scrambling around for materials. We aren’t talking someone laying a patio in their garden here.

Private sector contractors generally love doing work for them, because they know that there’ll be minimal pressure from the client.

That translates into projects drifting on for far longer than they might otherwise have done.

There'll have been funding issues if its come from the council or a local combined authority as they are always a bottle neck

The sheepfolds end looked like it needed 20 or 30 m2 3 weeks ago.

One or two on here have been a little bit arrogant with their comments about security but in my experience, security and gate men often have perfect corroborating evidence (often written) for claims and as builts

Hello Councillor, it’s nice of you to join the thread. (😉).

It might make a difference to the party (or parties) that are carrying cost risk! I just hope it’s not council tax payers.

In any event, despite the project architect expecting the project to have been completed for nearly a year by now, I recognise that the Council has consistently said that it would be complete by ‘Summer 2025’.

Now, while I would assume that that vague timeframe would have naturally included a decent contingency for delay (which council wouldn’t want to be in a position to actually deliver earlier than the public timeframe if things had gone well) we can all agree that we’re now in Autumn, the bridge structure has been up for 13 months and the project still isn’t complete, so it’s late.

Hopefully it can be completed sooner rather than later.

It will be a big positive for the City and I’m looking forward to my first walk across it.

It doesn't matter one iota what the "project architect expects" . He's got fuck all to do with planning , programming or funding . Or the relationship between the client and the main contractor. He'll have wanted many things on the project that he didn't get - either down to costs or practicalities .

All that matters is what is in the contact between the client and the main contractor. That's the only thing that counts as to whether it's late or not

There seems to be no evidence of this though? I’ll happily hold my hands up if someone can present it and present actual proof of a hold up, rather than it just progressing as business as usual. All just sounds like speculation based off a few people who seem to think it should already be open.

There are millions of moving parts to a project like this that won't be visible to someone looking over the fence.

Could be commissioning and testing for instance. Imagine that a sub contractor has installed some dodgy cables or switch gear and tried to pull a fast one on the council..they've come along to test the installation for sign off and found it doesn't meet the required spec or building regs... Are the council meant to say 'no bother , we'll just accept it how it is and deduct you a few quid " ....or "hang on, yous need to put this right before we can open it to the public"

Could be anything. Could be boring legal stuff that is being trashed out before the council take full possession

Show me where the council said that
And if they did, as has been pointed out to you a million times , the project could have been delayed for one of a million unforeseen reasons.

Never known an architect have any power on any project program ive seen. They can input their related timelines but the construction programme will be controlled by the main contractor and overseen by the project/program management team
