Greek Island Holiday Help

Fella at work back from a week in Skiathos and wasn’t impressed- said there wasn’t much to do and expected museums and whatnot to explore. I said surely you did your research before you went there? It isn’t that sort of holiday

Well there was hell on in the airport here in Zante yesterday. Loads of folk back at our hotel having flights cancelled etc

Light cloud today, you wouldn't think it was pissing down yesterday. Me and Mrs Sidey gonna hit Kalamaki strip for a few as we fly home tomorrow night.

Loved it and will definitely be going Greek next year.

Ps this stuff knocks spots off Mythos, saw a fellow poster with it on this thread so thought I'd give it a blast.

Cheers lads and lasses

Greece is the word mate. I don’t really drink lager but I can get away with Alfa. Luckily me mates bar I’ll be in tomorrow has shit loads of Greek craft beer 🍺✊🏻🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷

Yamas! Alfa and Fix are my 2 favourite's. I had a Mythos in Kefalonia a few years ago and the barman was saying it wasn't proper Greek lager in his opinion, made by Carlsberg or something? I think the other 2 are 'legit' greek beers.

Aye it not that old and I think one of the big brewers took it over a few years back. Pisswatta springs to mind 😉😂

I hope everyone who visited Greece this year had a great time and didn’t feel let down by our hospitality! Greeks (at least most of us) tend to be warm-hearted and outgoing, probably because they've gone through tough times, financial hardship, rural life, and many struggles.
Sure, I get it some people may take advantage of the tourist season, raising prices in restaurants or services, but I think that’s happening all over the world these days. Good food, good drinks, and beautiful places can be found everywhere!
I have to admit (and I’m not just saying this to flatter anyone!),I’m genuinely fond of the British. I always tell my friends how unique the British are as a people (relaxed, smiling, easy-going). Definitely a different vibe compared to other tourists.
Respect for people who come here, spend their money, and just want to enjoy a few nice days!
Right now, I’m waiting to be placed in a new job position as a veterinarian (I'm a fan of James Herriot-Alf Wight :)), and I’ve definitely got my eyes on the Ionian Islands or Western Greece in general.

How far is Kalamaki from Tsilivi?

One of the islands I would avoid in peak season is one of the nicest. Santorini.
Absolutely mobbed with cruise ship passengers.
Can't get moved unless you head for the opposite side of the island.
PS
I was a cruise ship passenger ,🙂

Wasn't a fan. Was there years ago mind. Stayed in Kamari, bit dull. Fira was nice for the sunset but seems it gets much busier these days.

Yeah, like ants heading up the bank to see the sights. Loads of fat Jabbas using the poor donkeys to get up the cobble bank in Oia as well instead of using the funicular.

Fix, Alfa, Mythos are ok. Mamos is the preferred choice of the locals if you ask them. Personally, I love Eza. Hellenic pilsener. Lovely stuff. Hard to find though. Baroque de bistro in Argostoli and Sto Psito in Lassi have it.
First time I had it was Vrahos rooms in Kardamena. Superb drink.

Literally bought a pack of these the other day, had my first one tonight. Very good beer. If anyone is out in Greece at the minute, try mamos beer, went down a treat.

I’ve been to Skiathos twice this year. Thought it was a lot more expensive than last year. Most notably the sunbeds on the beaches. Not unusual to be charged 30 euros for two and a parasol. No discounts for spending money in the taverna running the sunbeds.
Two weeks and that’s an extra 400 odd euros to find.
Greek salads which used to be the cheapest dish now regularly 12 euros and we were in one place on the beach that were charging 18 euros for a Greek salad. Thankfully you can still get a gyros platter to share for 12 euros so we will be back next year. 🇬🇷

Yeah stayed in kamari for a wedding which we didn't mind.

So glad we didn't stay in Fira, small streets and far to busy.

Overall not worth it when you've got so many other islands.

Was there a couple of years back, spent a week at both sides of the island
Hotel owner Le Petit Greek advised us to monitor the cruise ships coming in the next day and if there is a few big ships get up early and before they disembark , and plan accordingly it worked a treat, loved Fira but yes it’s mobbed at times but quieter on the night time when the cruise ship passengers have gone.
Second week Anastasia princess in Perissa
Food and beer almost half the price of Fira
Hotel class
