Perhaps one of our best and most important signings in the summer window?

I remember when he was appointed that the Charlton fans online were absolutely gutted he was leaving which is always a good sign.

We've looked a constant threat on every set piece and comfortable on them defensively.

So much so that we have 2 centre backs (Ballard and Alderete) in the top 3 of our overall non-penalty xG created and 4 defenders in our top 9 overall!

Between the set piece delivery, clever routines (did anyone catch Le Fee's little nod to Xhaka before he put the ball on a player for Alderete?), the execution, and the addition of actually being a threat from throw-ins in comparison to constantly giving possession away on them, it's clear that there has been a marked improvement in this regard this season.

Set pieces are massive opportunities especially for a side like us who admittedly don't create many chances from open play and long may it continue.

Our defensive changes have made a huge difference to defending set pieces. The attacking threat is great to see.

We should've scored at Burney too, great set up to leave Mayenda all alone in front of goal.
All these small details that make a huge difference over a full season, from data analysis in recruitment to set pieces. Nothing is left to chance these days at Sunderland, we're everything a modern football club should be. It helps that we have a young intelligent owner that surrounds himself with top people in their field.

I reckon the entire coaching set up deserves enormous praise
Can’t help wondering if Vulcano’s experience in Italian football hasn’t massively contributed to our defensive organization and resilience. Madir’s nous from Spanish footy and his analysis of opposition and preparing tactics and options. Clearly your man Brayne..it goes on. At the top of the apex is Speakman..the bloke is a genius
Look back and not that long ago Salmon pants and Dodgy Donald appointed Richard Hill, the sheepskin coat wearing DoF, who would don his trilby and go watch a few div 2 games.
Like comparing a piece of chalk and a square of slate with a top of range desktop PC
