Yorkshire v Durham : CC September 24

Credit to some but others really need to take a good long look at themselves as quite frankly it's not good enough and for some hasn't been good enough for most of the season and a lot of last season. Bottle from the local lads which to me makes it even more criminal we've let a promising local lad leave the club
Currently joint highest for most ducks in the county championship this year with 5 alongside Ben Allison who bats at 10/11 for Worcs. Having an opener with that kind of stat against you isn't great.
That's a remarkable stat that

Is that the last meaningful time we see Bedders bat in a Durham shirt if we go down?

A rubbish dismissal after doing so well today, his best knock of the season in the CC.

He’s still got the second innings marra, we’re not winning this by an innings ;).

It's coaching staff and management who need to take a look at themselves -will they? Do they care?
If they did they'd be issuing apologies at the end of the season. Will they?
That stat of Gay should have been identified and attempt to be rectified in the close season.
Has it been identified and will it be rectified?

Playing devil's advocate here, but he's scored 4 centuries and that means four games we should have won if other players had also done their bit. And four wins would have put us in a different situation than where we are now.

So if a player scores a century your team should win the game. What if an opposition p layer also scores a century?
What does the devil advocate then?

Someone else scores a century :p

Look at this game, 300+ run and not one century (yet).

A century in a game is a major contribution regardless. Someone else needs to pick up the baton too.

Also, we all know this team's problem is not batting, it's bowling.

14 overs left to get max batting points.

As we need another 128 runs to do that, I think it's going to be a stretch. We may be one or two points short here.

If we win we overtake Yorkshire.

Draw will be no good how Hampshire are shaping up in their game.

Hard to see us winning this game. Will have to be some bowling effort from us.

As someone said on the wireless this morning, they recalled saying that they hoped the generous declaration v Warks at home early in the season didn't come back to haunt us. Oh for those eight points.

It was Marty telling the story of what Clive Eakin, the Warwickshire commentator said back then. Looking very shrewd unfortunately.

Strange day today, I think everyone expected to turn up and find an absolute road. They mentioned on comms it’s a hybrid pitch, they’re usually very flat, but the outfield looks like it has had a lot of moisture over the last week and maybe that’s meant that there was always something in it for the bowlers. Whether out lot will get as much out of it, I’d doubt, unfortunately.

I think to have made it beyond 300, after being 2 for spit and 3 down before lunch is a decent recovery. If we can get beyond 350 tomorrow we’re atleast in the game for another day atleast.

It’s already looking like we’ll have to win this game. The day couldn’t really have gone much worse for us elsewhere, but perhaps that kind of clarity now is better than things dragging on all week. The players simply have to focus on what’s going on infront of them.

Nothing certainly has been rectified and thats probably because Im not sure our problems have even been identified ::: if they had been then surely we wouldnt keep seeing the same issues game after game after game

I think that was a really decent day’s play. The old cliche that you need to see both teams bat probably holds particularly with September pitches but I think we’ve got ourselves into a competitive position. But for the announcement the night before that it still mattered. I don’t think I’d have gone but I’m glad I did. The jeopardy makes it edge of seat stuff. I’ll be back today although I can’t make it till after lunch.

Agree with those who said we have to win. By my maths we can’t catch Yorkshire with a draw (even full bonus points would leave us level with one less win). And we aren’t catching anyone else practically with the way the other games are going. So we’ve got two and a bit days before the rain to rescue the season. Doubt it’s happening, but it’s because of the rest of the season that we are where we are. I thought yesterday’s performance showed a lot of fight.

Wouldn’t surprise me if at this time tomorrow the scores are broadly level and we are faced with a one innings shootout limited to a day and a half, if the forecast is to believed, to save our status.

Our problems have been identified. We can't get enough bowlers fit and ready to play a game. We don't have two bowlers of the class of Rushy and Onions, Potts and Raine, for all they're talented aren't up to their standard and in 3rd and 4th bowler slot there's nobody.

At least in the reporting from the members meeting it seems they're trying to understand the reason for the injuries.
