Durham v Worcestershire : CC September 15

Did anyone go to this?
Yeah I went. To be fair to North I thought he spoke very well. He admitted that this year had been unacceptable. Looking at the medical side of things to try and keep some of our younger bowlers on the pitch more often. Got quizzed as to reasons Killeen left, said he was offered a 2 year contract but wanted to experience something different/move away from home which I got. Also said he expects and Killeen has said as well that he expects he’ll come back to Durham at some point. Hope to have Bedingham all year next season, the Afghan kid (apologies can’t remember his name) will be on a one year deal next year and as he has claimed asylum won’t class as an overseas.

Part of that was a rookie deal though. Piss take when he's offered Bailey and Aldridge 3 year pro deals

They’ve got high hopes for Aldridge. Sees him as a future England player. Said he’s coming in as a straight replacement for Coughlin.

Didn’t see that myself when we had him on loan but here’s hoping. He did more than most of the Durham team this week to try and keep us in Division One

Marcus North had high hopes for Chemar Holder and Sam Conners. I just fail to understand why we offer a promising youngster a 1 year rookie plus 1 year pro deal when we are offering outsiders 3 year pro deals. Just hope we can stay up and these lads can start and perform.

Im also worried about him giving Ghafari a one year deal.

Is he really better than Parky or Drissell? Not on the evidence I've seen.

It seems I'm not alone - someone at the meeting said to North that we'd heard from him about leadership but what about leadership on the field as it was non existant which actually drew applause from quite a few folk. North said they were aware of it and its being 'reviewed' but added that we don't get to see Lees' contribution in the dressing room.

He said he has always been 100% committed to red ball cricket (but isn't he the bloke who was a Director Of Cricket for Northern Superchargers?)

We heard a lot of talk from North about the problems Durham have had this season but we didn't hear many solutions. He'd definitely make a good MP especially in the 'art' of filibustering

That’s what worries me unless Wood makes an unexpected return I just can’t see us taking 20 wickets.
Someone asked about Woody at the Q and A. North said the ECB wanted him to play in the Worcs match but that his knee broke down again 10 days ago. He definitely won't play at Headingley, unfortunately.

1) One of those years was just a rookie, so effectively a one year professional deal.

2) That's absolute bollocks, he would have signed a reasonable offer from Durham in a heartbeat.

Is it now reasonable to assume that the CC reorganisation outcome is not known?
Asked about this at the Q and A. North said that the votes will be in next Tuesday and maybe the results leaked soon after. He said it was closer now than before and that a change was probable.

Or was looking more probable. Can't remember his exact words.

Well that's not remotely true. He's not England class but he's a solid Division one top order batsman. Just not shown it here yet in the CC, as today was a glorified net.

Captained Warwickshire to win the Championship. They didn't want to lose him but he wanted to play more T20 cricket.

He'd have had a much better season at Warks as he'd have batted 3 every game there.

As I think has been said. Lees was maybe expected to leave and we got his and Borthwick replacements in the form of Gay/Rhodes in while we had chance. Then as Lees stayed we were then left with 4 players to fill that top 3 position. So they've had to shoehorn him into the side filling in for McKinney and Bedders when they've been off doing international duty. Sure he got a chance to bat 3 when Ackers wife had a kid too.

Campbell claiming we viewed him as an allrounder sounded daft from the beginning.

He got a chance to bat at 3 when McKinney was away and then batted 6/7 when Bedders/Ackers were away. Not really easy to build form being moved around the order and then not picked.
TBF the reason he isn't batting three is he had the first half of the season there and was shite. He left Warwickshire as, in addition to wanting to play T20, he fancied himself as more of an all rounder.

I agree with this. He definitely only left Warwickshire because he wasn't in their t20 plans and wanted the opportunity to be an all rounders in that form.

Fwiw I think Rhodes will come good for us. He did well for us in the One Day Cup and did well yesterday. However a very big let down in the County Championship (he hasn't been the only one). If he's with us next season I think we'll see the best of him. A player is like us to persist with.

His own words he left as he wanted to play T20 and his wife is from Northumberland so they both wanted to be closer to home. Him being a Yorkishire lad

He never missed a CC game for Warks in 7 years playing 91 games in a row batting in the top 3 and now all of a sudden he's the man left out here.

His record at Warks for the record.

Olly: What are the reasons for leaving?

Will: A few different reasons on and off the field. I still have that urge for T20 cricket. Those Friday nights here against Worcester in the Blast, big games, you want to be part of them. So to be left out is disappointing but the guys have been doing well, topping the group in both the last two years, so there’s nothing wrong with leaving me out. I’ve been in a few squads in recent years but not played. It’s an itch I sill want to scratch. I feel I’ve got a bit to give in white ball cricket. Even if I don’t play (Blast) at Durham I’ve got to go and try to play rather than let my white ball game run out.

My partner is also from Northumberland. She’s been down here for five years and we’ve both loved it. But it’s time to go back nearer home, be close to family, and it’s a new challenge for me as well. There’s no bad blood or animosity between myself and the club at all, the relationship has been left really well.

He didn't get over 26 batting at 3 this season. I'd argue that's more relevant than his performances 2 seasons ago. McKinney and Gay have centuries at #3 this season.

Maybe if he forgot about bowling his batting performances would warrant batting there.
