Villa forum

RLB has plenty of credit in the bag. But yes it’s possible he could be gone before the end of the season if we were struggling and the owners thought a new manager bounce might keep us in the league.

I think our style in the PL might go against RLB into the medium term. It’s going to be combative and defensive and we’re not going to score many goals. That works fine when drawing or leading but I wonder how we’ll get on in games we fall behind in. I’m not sure there is a plan B. Let’s hope plan A is sufficient to get us the points that we need.
We fell behind in one of our two wins. A plan B shows up on the 70th minute each game.

I think this will be our toughest game yet. I know they haven’t won or scored yet in the league but it’s the first time there is a bit of pressure on us as so called favourites. They have had a slow start but will click into gear soon. Too many quality players not to. The talk of sacking Emery is absolute madness.
We aren’t favourites at all, not even close

Sunderland are around 13/5

Villa 11/10

“So called favourites”….. Who makes Sunderland favourites?
Whilst Villa are drifting from being odd-on, which was frankly ludicrous, they are still massive favourites with every bookie.

To comply with PSR. How do you think we are going to manage the situation. We spend all our PSR money in 1 go. If we stay up we need to sell what we brought in. And then not be able to buy nobody for 2 seasons.

Just like they are.
Pretty sure our accounted spend for PSR this year is largely equal to our player sales given amortisation…. So we won’t be struggling with PSR next year.

It shows how a narrative can influence opinion. The narrative is PSR is to blame for everything, they're on the verge of kicking on but can't because the rules are protecting the status quo. And whilst that is true, the reality is they've spent a lot of money and given out ridiculous contracts to players who aren't really up to the standard they're aspiring to, leading to a 93% wage to turnover, blocking them from spending further. They haven't been able to invest further, the squad has stagnated as they'd gambled on qualifying for the Champions League, results reflect that and the manager takes the blame.

In reality, I think Emery overachieved in reaching the CL then getting as far as they did and the blame should lie with their recruitment team.
Just shows how important that loss to man u on the last game of the season was

A point and they would be in the CL(instead of the saudis) and in a better state.
Though you can't base your finances on that.

Don't know how it's all gone so wrong though. A team that was comfortably in a European spot last season , and GD from being in a champions league spot, had a slight transfer surplus and now seen to be devoid of confidence.

We did - things can happen in football but we aren’t a team who is going to do that ordinarily. The games was lost and a defender / ref take your pick gave us a lifeline. I think the OP makes a fair point. We will have lots of very close games this year as defensively we have good players. I hope the fans are patient when we have a run of being in the wrong end of them.
