SOL expansion

Personally i think physically there is room to extend the east stand but once all these homes are built and folk are living there they will object on nuisance grounds(nobody can stop them objecting) and the scuffers will be concerned with sub standard transport links and footfall.Realistically they need to get the south stand extended before the housing development is completed as assurances from the council are not worth the paper they are written on!

The new extension plans have 5500 seats rather than 7500 so it will take the capacity to around 53500 and i think the east would add another 9 thousand (going of old estimates)so that would give a final capacity of approx 62500?

Is there a bit of brinkmanship from the council trying to force KLD's hand. Heard chat that Kyril has told the council for a number of years that he will build a high quality concert venue and conference centre on the land but after so long of nothing happening the council are suddenly saying do it then or we will build houses. Interestingly the one at Gateshead (to be Sage) next door to the Glasshouse has stalled completely. The grounds have been fenced off and dug up but that is it. Newcastle/Gateshead and One North East when it still existed have been trying for over 20 years to get that thing built.

Cracking idea for bars on non matchday, I live very close to the sol and yes the stables is a nice place for a drink but would really like a couple of more decent bars beside me

In terms of percentage drop in attendances (a good gauge for fickleness) you'd need to see the mags with back to back relegations. The Saudi's bailing out, the club on the verge of going into administration and a couple of used car salesman taking over and spending 4 years in the third tier to really make a direct comparison.

I only put City and Chelsea in the higher category due to their success since their takeovers.

Seems an obvious point but a lot of it comes down to having a winning team. Any of those clubs would move up and down the categories due to being successful or hopeless stagnation but certain clubs currently have an advantage with their likely good performances on the pitch.
 
Looks like we will sell out every single home game this season. If we stay up I reckon the club will extend the stadium.
They will have to if we are, as is the plan, to be an established top 10 premiership team. Also gives us the opportunity to sweep up young fans who are currently unable to attend games at the Stadium of Light as well the S**t tip.

This is once in 20 years. There needs to be a bigger sample size before the club will out down £50m or whatever.

If we go down, you'll have 5k empty seats already as the stadium is.

Who cares mate if we don’t go down and stay then we’re missing out on millions of income from more tickets and no doubt more corporate sales. People worry about what it looks like on social media if some tickets don’t get sold IF we go back down forgetting that we’ve been averaging 40k plus in that league the past few years.

Im on about from the clubs POV. Club said at a talk in few weeks back that if it continues we will need to look into options. But there's nowt planned soon.

They won't be hoying £50m or whatever at an extension unless its definitely needed.

You've just said yourself averaging 40k. But its a 47/48k seater. That isn't going to persuade the money men to hoy tens of millions on more seats.

Plenty seats for the cup games that no one apparently wants to go to. We're on a high after promotion, it will likely tail off if the team dont continue on an upward trajectory

Luckily I think our owners are more ambitious than a lot of our fans are
