Essex v Durham County Championship 8-11 Sept

Yeah I said "1 or 2" contributing then it's left to Clark which is exactly what has happened here again. Lees scores well then someone else chips in (McKinney today) then we find ourselves relying on Clark (again today) to push us on as the top order just aren't consistent enough. Clark is our 3rd top scorer going into this round of games.
And should be batting up the order no point running out of partners at 7.

Ive missed most of the post lunch action and it looks like it was just as well.

We should have got 400+ here but bottled it again.

I bet Essex have no problems on this wicket.

This team won promotion by being aggressive, the comparisons were made regarding England and yet today, at 189-1, you’d have thought that we were in the best situation you’ll find to be positive and instead a long line of batsmen have come in and been so negative that they’ve gone nowhere and got themselves out.

Hindsight is great of course, but if Ackermann onwards had come in swinging and we’d been all out by now - we’d have had 400 on the board. Half of me thinks it might be worth declaring to get a go at them tonight.
Theres the rub....what are the players being told to do ? ....we dont seem to have any style . Surely they should be playing their natural game rather than scratching about trying to survive

Haven’t won since May and if I’m being totally honest that’s the last time I saw any fight from this team.
Yup. After that abysmal capitulation at home to Somerset in May I predicted that we were going to be in a relegation struggle but not even I thought we'd fold like we have done.

Rest assured Worcs will turn us over next week.

So presumably Campbell picked a side batters heavy / bowlers light hoping that we would score enough runs to get max batting points and secure a draw ( at least )
We need 2 wins out of 3 to stay up mate as we are 12 points adrift and we play 3 teams around us so draws put us down.

It’s just sad the position we are in been so poor.

Decent effort by the last two but the entire middle order just wasnt good enough. With this bowling attack and 7 batters we had to go big, very big, sadly we havent.

I hope Harmer gets a fine for that claimed catch. He knew it was a bump ball but went on as if it was nailed on. Threw the ball to the umpire, high fiving his team mates. Im just glad the umpires weren't fooled, particularly Blackie.

You're not wrong there - he's been poor in his rare CC appearances and looks as he's thinking of pastures new.
Yeah his mind appears to be solely with the Saffer test team and he knows whenever that comes to an end he will pick up a big fat contract from any number of counties because of his previous run scoring and also he is actually not very good at t20 its unlikely he will get much franchise opportunities so will be available for most of a county season.

Im hoping Bedders does stay but ive got a feeling SACB won't allow it. It has been a bad season playing for us but hopefully if he is allowed to play for us next season he will find his form again.

He's our best overseas player and if he goes we'll probably have some 3rd rate Aussie in his place.
