Patrick Roberts to Birmingham compendium

sad that hes going as he played a pivotal role in getting us here and he did get a few premier league minutes - but actually I'm glad that I'm sad about it and not celebrating his exit like did Rack Jodwell. If we feel this way about Paddy then we know he'll always be welcome back here if only for that Sheffield Wednesday equaliser and that pass in the play off final
That's a decent point you make.

Obviously good enough for that level. Questionable at best as to whether he's good enough for the Premier League, but I'd say he's far from being a regular starter. I feel he'd have been able to offer us something off the bench against tired legs when the AFCON absentees, injuries and suspensions mount up over the season.

He's been an excellent servant to the club. Took a risk on us in L1, scored some important goals and assisted on many more. We wouldn't be where we are now without his contribution, despite being one of the most frustrating players we've had in recent years.

I also think we're a bit light on the right hand side so I hope this is going to be addressed before 7pm.

You're showing yourself up to be one of the thickest to be honest.

Have you actually enjoyed the past few years of being a Sunderland supporter, or have you only just recently crawled back out of the woodwork now we've hit the big time again? Can't say I've noticed you about much.

Either way, it must be a pretty grim existence hating one of the most talented and productive players we've had during our rise.

Good move for him and them. Wonder why we aren't selling him permanently, want him for next season incase we get relegated?

With you being top of the list.

Have you forgotten Some of the wingers that played for us:
Paul Atkinson
John Colquhoun
Sam Aiston
Tony Cullen
Chris Maguire
Roy Greenwood
Roly Gregoire
Lewis Morgan

You really think any of those were better than Roberts?
Brian Mooney.....our big money signing to try and keep us up in 1991!

The fact of the matter is, if Patrick Roberts was everything those who deride him want him to be, he would never have left Man City. He certainly wouldn't be anywhere near a basketcase club stuck in the doldrums in League 1.

What Patrick Roberts has been is a mainstay in an evolvong team that has achieved two promotions in 3 years. A real touch of quality after years of watching some absolute cloggers. After years of bouncing about he found a home here and gave us his all.

I love the lad and I'm sad to see him go.

Well said. My thoughts exactly.

Key goal in the play offs to get out of League One and a superb defence splitting pass for the Big Man to level at Wembley. We wouldn't be here without him.

Deserves to be a legend and always welcomed. Go well Paddy.
Legend is pushing it.

But wish him well. Always gave his best and had his moments.

Good move for everyone concerned and yes, he'd get a good return reception (hopefully not in a league game). A bit like Gooch.

He's one of those limbo players who is very good for the Championship, but can't compete in the Premier League. Hard to put a valuation on that sort of player.
I think he would have been a decent option off the bench, but i can understand why he is taking this move. I do get that though, unless they are a striker (remember ross mccormack somehow commanding 10m+ fees) then it can be hard to get a decent price. I think he will be a miss around the club, as if any of the behind the scenes videos over the years are accurate he seemed very popular with the lads. I can imagine he was worth more to us than he was to them, and the loan just made sense all round. If he can link with furuhashi, we could see a nice return next year. Also, if worst came to worst and we did go down, we would already have him back here
