SOL expansion

I thought the planning permission for the south stand had lapsed?so they will need to apply again ..so we will know well in advance that they intend to build ...as if you say its the option if we stay up they wont want to delay the build from the end of the season waiting for approval!
Iirc the planning was renewed last year, possibly year before. Only issue is it'll be for the initial plan. Looks like we've revised these to bring it up to modern standards. It shouldn't be an issue though. Not a good look for planning to be refused is it?

Bar 1 game, we're also 6k under capacity aswell.

If we start playing crap and are relegated it'll soon be back there aswell.

Maybe, just maybe it's a better idea to become a solid Premier League team before jumping the gun...

A more sensible way would be to have a waiting list and if there's 10k people or so in a list then do the extension imo. Athletico in comparison are at the top of their game.
I know what you’re saying. It’s been so long talked about I just want to see it done tbh

You are right as the club have got to think what the pay back would be if they weren’t able to sell all those seats consistently or if they were predominantly concession seats, as there would obviously be increased operating costs for the club to facilitate it.

Also a south stand extension as you say isnt going to do anything for concerts unless they flipped the stage to north stand and the south stand provided more revenue opportunities but you’d imagine that would be marginal?

If an extended south stand isn’t going to be as big as originally planned, I wonder if they’re thinking about extending the executive boxes along the full width of the stand when the full extension is built. The concrete balconies project out in the west and corners by about 5 rows so those seats would be lost at the back of the south. I think the main goal of the north was to add capacity, whereas any south extension will be corporate heavy imo.
Would think so. It’ll go to 54k, which means if we ever extended the whole thing we’d still go to mid 60’s.

It's the exact reason why Murray wanted the big stadium isn't it, so any fan can go to the game. Those who moan about the empty seats at the SOL (cos they look crap on TV or the mags take the piss) don't realise that if it was still 42k that in the PL then we'd be paying near what the likes of the mags pay. There certainly wouldn't be the generous concessions we have all around the ground we've enjoyed for years and allowed kids to start going at young ages to get hooked and get the next generation of fans going regularly.

Post war to the 70s Roker Parks crowd would fluctuate wildly from 20,000 to 60,000 and I bet nobody was moaning on about empty spaces. If we had a 100,000 stadium then the crowds would fluctuate wildly regardless.

It's when clubs have restricted capacity they take the piss and milk fans. You only have to look at Leeds as an example as they generate £30m revenue from 35,000 fans (they restrict ST sales and sell higher match days) and the same for Southampton/Brighton/Fulham as they all generate a lot more revenue than we do from far more fans.

What would fans prefer? Smaller crowds but many fans missing out or being priced out or just about any fan being able to go to the match to watch them play thanks to the bigger capacity and reasonable ticket prices?
Exactly

Yep. Over a very long period. And I don’t think access to finance is all that hard for the likes of KLD and Sartori
Agreed but it still has to be repaid.

It’s just my view but I get more excited over a 20 goal a season striker than a pink plastic seat.

Spend the money on the squad, establish ourselves as top half premier league club and then implement the plans for expansion.

but it doesn’t have to be one or the other. And PSR has to be taken into account for this as well. It’s not like when Murray commissioned the last expansion where it was a bit of a binary choice

People seem to forget that Murray commissioned the North Stand extension and the purchase of Flo around the same time. The cheaper of the two has paid for itself a few times over and we still use it to this day, the other was just a waste of money.

Aye because there are loads of Sunderland fans wanting to spend hundreds of pounds for a seat every match.
Have you seen how many tourist fans premier league clubs attract? For every 1 loyal season card holder at established Premier league clubs there will 5 plus tourists who will pay more per seat and spend more on merchandise for 1 game than a "normal" fan.

Add in that big corporates will pay the money at any club they can so they can take clients etc to premier league games.

Have a look how much arsenal or spurs generate from matchday corporate sales, its a staggering amount of money
