Newcastle United 🇸🇦 v 🔴 Liverpool EPL Sky Sports Main Event/Sky Sports Premier League Kick off 20:00

Yet the mags only see the Liverpool ones and conveniently ignore their fouls. Even that yellow for Konate (gif below), when you look at it closely you can see the dark arts. Bruno sticks his foot well into the path of Konate (possibly even catches his Konate's calf) as he knows Konate is coming in. He then rolls away in agony, screaming and clutching his shin yet that didn't get touched. Yet 30 seconds later when the free kick is being taken then he's up and about as it's job done and he's drawn the yellow card from the ref.

This is why he's one of the most fouled players as he's actually good at this and he puts some of the WWE stuff to shame with his theatrics of making it look worse than it is. Look at his leg as turns and bends his knee as he turns so he doesn't get hurt. Though it's stupid in a way as he could easily be seriously injured sticking a leg out like that.

He may be fouled often but as we've seen he's also a dirty fucker. I was looking at the Tonali incident and this happens just before as he catches Ekitike's heel. He isn't taking a step as you see him stretch but he's never reaching that ball. Ekitike and Tonali tangled right after.

It was also in the penna box and we've seen Gordon pull the same stunt of getting a foot in between the ball and the player. Difference is that Ekitike didn't roll about like a fanny, like Gordon would to fool the ref into giving the penna and given the contact then VAR wouldn't ask him ower.

Here's another in the 81st minute as he doesn't win the ball so then clearly lashes out and kicks Chiesa's so yet another yellow card missed. Ref looking straight at it and it's a yellow all day long, though I think the ref bottled this one as he knows it would have be a 2nd yellow and therefore a red and there would be absolute hell on. These are just the few I've seen skipping through the game but I've seen enough of him to know what he's like. Though saying all that, dark arts aside he's a great player and puts everything in and we'd love that kind of passion and work rate here. Dan Burn is another who is good at the dark arts.

Howe's teams are like this.

The mags have been doing it since he took over and the way they've set about this season appears no different.

They've clearly worked on their preparation and fitness with the idea of getting a flying start so the burden of top flight and other games in September and October can be mitigated.

The fact that they've only got one point to show for it is fairly typical of their circus in the town approach.

The fact that the chairman/chief exec and major investor found it necessary to parade around the pitch also speaks volumes for this 2 bob set up

Hopefully they'll stick with young Beheadie as I reckon he's perfect for them.

Mags definitely out a shift in and caused Liverpool a load of problems , but to be fair it was just like watching a pumped up Stoke team

It is to be fair. We’d love it if it was us. The kind of frantic in your face football that gets their fans going too which added to Liverpool’s stress. They looked shit scared last night. Finishing aside it was like watching a lower league team the amount of times their midfield buckled under pressure and shanked a pass out of play in a blind panic.
You are right however maybe it will calm down as surely the players must have fatigue after that .
This will make them prone to injuries I reckon .
No player can keep that up for 9 months
Another waffle from me TLDR but I type fast on a big keyboard  Last night they probably took it to the highest level as they're not like that all the time. No doubt the occasion got them wound right up, more so after the red card in 2nd half and you could clearly see this in Bruno as he was at the limit of losing it.

What they normally do is graft in spells, usually straight from kick off, especially when at home to try to get the early goal. Score and they sit back and recover but even if they don't score they run outta steam so will slow up play along with niggly non booking fouls or a player will get an 'injury' which stops play. They often have a timeout with Howe on the sidelines also and then they will usually have a go again until half time to try to get a goal.

Rinse and repeat 2nd half and given the time of the ball in play it's doable. Last night was 40% in play so that's not even 40 minutes of football. That's split into 2 halves so to be high intense for brief periods isn't as demanding as you may think. More so if they have some sort of signal from the bench that tells them whether to be high intense or recover.

Once they get the goal then the shithousing goes up a level as any touch from the opposition will end up with a soft foul and time wasting. This also happens when they're under attack as they do it to break up the constant pressure or have a time out. All these breaks in play help players get another breather so they can then do a more intense short spell of football but more importantly do it as a team.

I think that's why they seem to look better against good teams who are there to play football with the tika taka. Those teams can't do it due to the mags intense pressing so they look poor as they can't buildup like they can against teams that sit deeper. The mags have a very high press to try to win possession to try to get a shot off or they win possession back deep and counter attacking due to the pace they've got on the wings. That along with the free kicks so they can launch the ball into the box.

It's the dark arts of the game and they're experts at it, though when they come up against weaker teams that give a bit back and sit deeper with less space to run into then they struggle.

They didn’t though- they should have. This is what started the ‘premya leeeeeague- corrupt as fuck’ song.

They did
Immediately after the tackle and when he got a a yellow, it was all "oh Anthony Gordon"

As soon as he went to the screen, silence

Then "premier league is f***ing corrupt" ad nauseum

I get carried away tapping away on the keyboard but their work rate and tactics are well managed and for all that he is a mag, Howe is a great manager. They've also done well with signings that fit into the work ethic that they have. They're also very physical and that midfield 3 are probably the most physical in the league and somehow they get away with loads.

If they had a striker then they'd probably win both those games. Injuries aside, they've also got a bit more squad depth for midfield and wingers, though that means some players won't be playing as often as they like. Why Wissa wants to come up here to be a replacement Wilson with limited game time is beyond me. That's assuming they still want a main striker regardless of the Isak saga.

In an alternate timeline, Newcastle sell Isak to Liverpool for £110m, and reinvest. Isak starts for Liverpool last night, but he gets a warm reception as they've reinvested the money into 2-3 players including Etikite. A well-drilled Newcastle comfortably beat an out-of-sorts Liverpool, setting themselves up for a great season ahead.

Instead, the club have made the same mistake that has always held Newcastle back - they've listened to the fans. Together, they spend a summer getting wound up over imagined outrages and invented rivalries and conspiracy theories. In reality, their current predicament is down to one thing - Wor Amanda couldn't run a bath. If the club took the PSR rules seriously from Day One they could be contenders by now. Instead, they're stuck with throwing pity parties with Villa fans.

They now go into the last week of an already-disasterous transfer window with the weakest hand imaginable. Liverpool have no need to up their bid, and the likes of Wolves / Brentford can name their price for Larsson and Wissa. All because the club have happily went along with the fans' delusions about where they sit in the pecking order. A paper-thin squad, a toxic prospect for new signings and a Champions League campaign to manage too.
Insanity to suggest their owners did not sell Isak because they listened to Adam P and Paul Gallant 3675.

Can’t believe they’re lapping this shit up mind.
Holy trinity of midfielders all out injured in a single game…

Suds has gone missing and no one can find the password to the laptop with their scouting list…

think that’s 7 reasons to be optimistic.
Thought it was a good reminder that if we aren’t properly up for it they will bully us into conceding a few goals the same way we did a few years ago.

They’re obviously a very good side and they’re not going to be complacent against us. Hopefully they have a few injuries by then, Isak sulking up front, and Hume can bring a life size mock-up of Brereton Diaz to teach Gordon how you play the man and ball at the same time.

The owners privately agreed to give Isak his move.

This only became a problem when the move became public, and the Geordie Nation decided that they're rivals of the Premier League champions.

Had it remained private, they'd have lost Isak and gained £130m to spend in the market with lots of time to spend it. Now that it's public, they've lost Isak and gained nothing other than the "Played Well With 10 Men" trophy.
