Durham's one day cup campaign

Straight on their backs what an absolute joke. I've been a member since 1992 patiently sitting through defeat after defeat in the early years as we tried to establish ourselves in the First Class game ( remember 1996 with the sole win in the Sunday League and none in the CC.) Celebrating like we'd won the Cup in the gloom at Feethams vs Kent in 1997 with Boon bowling spin to ensure our first CC win in over two years. Sticking by them through a series of false dawns and more wooden spoons than my old mam's cutlery drawer saying that we'll come good someday.

And then the glory years of 07 - 14 where we were the best team in the land and feared by the established order to then be followed by the events of 2016 and sticking by them as Stoneman, Borthwick, Coughlin and Jennings went elsewhere but we, the supporters, remained as we languished in Div 2 for six awful seasons because we cared for the club.
And then Campbell arrived and turned it around in 2023 getting the team to play some of the best cricket I've ever seen and seemingly establishing us last season as a future force in Div 1.

As I get older I admit I may be turning into a Victor Meldrew but the thing about him was that he wasn't really a moaning old sod it was because he really cared about things and I care for Durham way more than any other sports team I could to mention. I don't give a toss if England lose at cricket but I'm hugely concerned about what is going on at my club this season - something that I've pointed out since the defeats at home to Warwicks and Somerset. We wouldn't have lost those matches last season thats for sure and worse still you can see the negative body language in the players - it didn't look like the team looked like they believed they could win Whether that's down to the players themselves, the captain, the Coach, the bowling coach, the Director of Cricket or our member loving Chief Exec I can't say but it is alarming how we've declined. I've always given credit where credit is due but I'm sorry but there's been too many times this season where performances have been unacceptable and today was definitely one of them.

Fair play mate enjoyed reading that and enjoyed your passion, can’t argue with your views there, my post was very much said in jest

Still think people are just like totally ignoring the t20 stuff, which has been impressive

He only comment's regularly when we are playing rubbish
Equally it would be fair to say that you never comment adversely even after a series of abject performances. Are you not seriously concerned about the direction of this club regarding coaching, recruitment, lack of advancement from the academy and a clear lack of moral and confidence in the field?

I don't think we are ignoring the t20 stuff we're concerned about the overall direction of the club at present -it's a very depressing outlook. That's reality.

Well this point kind of proves my point, you’ve just decided to exclude the 2nd most important format in your view for no particular reason? Like why are you not including in that when lookingat the fortunes of the club? That’s not fair

It’s by far our most watched format, biggest crowd, biggest money earner, but apparently results in those don’t count?
Im not having ago but that’s just really strange and not fair it’s a lot more important than the 50 over cup

👏👏👏

Its just human nature of the sports fan.

We praise when we win and boo when we lose. That happens whether we watch Durham, England or even our football teams.

However I stand by my point (which others have also made) that something doesn't seem right at the club. If that is the case it needs to be put right. Otherwise the winning mentality will disappear altogether. Our only chance of success this season is in the Blast. In the CC we need to fight hard to avoid relegation.

Everybody responsible needs to be on the same side. If we feel that it isn't the we are entitled to have a go.

Can’t be a a successful making the blast finals if we get relegated and can anyone seriously think the way we are playing we are winning 2 of our last 3 county games.

The performances are all over the place multiple batting collapses today and v Northants. We have conceded over 350 in 2 of the last 4 games.

Been a lot of talk about pulling together and performing with very little evidence of improvement.

Hope we survive in the 4 day game but at the moment we look nailed on to go down.

I'm not ignoring it-I'm looking at the bigger picture. I'm sure I'm as keen as you are to see the club do well. Perhaps you're a glass half full fan and I'm a glass half empty fan and we'll leave it there.
I'm no Victor Meldrew 😀
But I transform into him whenever I catch sight of North

Im not really knocking how you feel like, who am I to say, just think it’s unfair to exclude things.

I think cricket is hard to judge overall, as a sport, as I said earlier when you get on a bit of a bad run it’s hard to stop, we did however win 2 days ago mind. I wouldn’t read anything into 50 over stuff mind it’s a strange comp with the 100 going on

County cricket we have been average to poor snd some poor tactical decisions have been made no doubt about that, but it was like only 2 years ago we were praising Campbell and what he was doing

Im no north lover, I questioned him even during this period, but it’s easy I think tò people to get carried away with “there is something rotten in the culture” type stuff and ignore like some of the basic cricket stuff which has gone wrong

1 more point division 1 is bloody hard, it also took us a long time to get back here, Theres never gonna be a scenario when we are just sat comfortably at the top of division 1 every year, we are still one of the smaller counties

Fair comment. Mind we have won the CC 3 times recently and developed several internationals so in that context we aren't a smaller county. Our aim and our prospects will always depend on a flourishing academy which leads to that fighting team spirit . That's no longer apparent and that to my mind changes the whole ethos of the club hence"there's something rotten in our culture ".

Yeah I’m not happy about that and have been been happy for a long time regarding it. I’d say rotten is harsh

I went to a game, can’t remember who against sorry last year, and McKinney got runs and Hogg bowled like a dream, it’s not completely out of the window

Weve signed too many players and too many loans and a lost a bit of identity, Theres no doubt about that like aye

Weve even lost the identity we had under Campbell tbh

Yeah fair enough you lose by this margin yoi deserve criticism, thr nature of it fair enough

To my original point I’d argue that we had an unreal win 2 days ago that barely even got mentioned on here then we lose here and the knives are out, “club is a joke” etc, people pick and chose a bit unfairly. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable point
The difference between today and wednesday was huge though.......we won on wednesday but so easily could have lost too. Today we were absolutely hammered.......something we dont do to other teams

Today was embarrassing. Second away trip of the year. The T20 loss at Worcester in June, with 3 overs to spare, was poor too. This was on a different level.
