Its live on bbc 1 wall to wall coverage and also has government backing. Also they will be working to the final minute on friday to get it ready, a week is a long time in a major project program

Not weird at all. It's been explained plenty of times on the thread.
The Rugby is a worldwide showcase event with a planned fans parade over the bridge which will be beamed across the world. It was always the plan and when it was first mooted, we had no way of knowing we would be in the Premier League.
They are working their nuts off to get it ready in time, no way would it have been ready for Saturday and certainly wouldn't have been a week earlier for the Championship kick off.

I have no interest in the rugby and would have loved it to have been open on Saturday, but I fully understand the reasoning.

Was a canny few workers on it at around 2:15 Saturday.

Aye I had a walk around town at midday and they were grafting away. The reason it wasn't open this weekend is that it wasn't ready despite them working every day. Not much you can do about that!

Lots of separate trades working on it often based throughout the UK. Not always easy to source these. I would rather it was built and fitted out properly than rushed.
