I sang it in the school choir (aww…shucks) at South Shields Grammar Technical School….ahh the fame of three consecutive nights performing to all on Parent’s Evenings.Me grandad used to always sing the song to me when I was a bairn, brought back some canny memories that.
It's in Sunderland.Historically it was County Durham though.
I know , I was born there.
A song about the Lambton family and the river wear isn’t particularly Mackem ?First performed at the Tyne Opera House in Westgate Road, Newcastle. Not trying to kill the vibe but at the time there was less Tyne/Wear tribalism. We wanna claim a Co Durham legend? Fine, let’s do it. I just always point out that this particular song isn’t particularly ”Mackem”
Cracking tifo tho but. We have the best tifos in English football
I’m thinking a mining / ship building / football club history one with “a proud city and club which has never sold its soul”Surely for the Derby the Tifo should be a black cat with a magpie in it's mouth
I was told this as a kidWas always told the song was wrong and he actually wrapped his tail round worm hill, and thats why it’s called worm hill.

Back in the day JFK primary in washy used to have a 3d mural in the hall of Sunderland landmarks. Massive penshaw monument with the worm wrapped around it. Earliest memories. Epic.We were taught about it at primary school and went on a field trip to penshaw monument.
I agree. It was brilliant. Don't care what the haters think.Utterly superb. Everyone is raving about it online, from Belgium to China.
It made us look top class. The whole atmosphere was fantastic and to top it off with a tremendous display and win.
Wow.
We are back.
