Swindon Town 25/26 thread

Taking over 1,700 to Cardiff tomorrow night for a first round Carabao Cup game.
Decent following as this Cup struggles with attend and is often used to get a few fringe players minutes.
New Ground which is welcome to add to the list.
I see Princewill Ehibhatiomhan  is coming in on loan from So'ton, IH seems to be addressing what he's seen could become a problem.

Don't ask me to spell that surname again mind, it'll cost as much to get his name on a shirt as it cost for the shirt.

We have an abundance of forwards.
Holloway uses the term “stack them and rack them.” He makes multiple changes in games. Definitely lacking a decent experienced centre half.

Great turnout for that game. That's a sign of your following. How many are on your list now?

You can't have too many forwards [within reason/league rules/club finance], IH is right saying that and if he thinks he may need to vary how you play & alter things in-game to achieve the result he wants I'm in his corner. He's also getting his point across if he reckons he wants more work rate & produce from them.

Are there many available experienced CBs around? I suppose money-talks & playing for Mr H would be an education if whoever he puts the bite on fancies going into management (not dismissing the chances of a trophy/medal come May).

Holloway maybe be mad as a box of frogs but seems to have got the Robins flying......... meanwhile Larry Grayson continued his non losing streak in his first game....This time as Manager of the Mighty Monkey Hangers Away at Yeovil....Nil Nil...

Well done to the 199 Poolies in attendance...no doubt with Jeff Stelling there in Disguise....;)

He's a more than decent coach at that level. That gets overlooked because of the verbal gymnastics.

I’ve seen Swindon on a fair few grounds outside the FL and then Clubs keep moving which makes it frustrating.
Late 70’s for existing ones.
He will peddle two existing CB’s and look to bring in another.

Spot on Mate.
Cut through his daft exterior he is a very shrewd Manager and gets the best out of the players. He doesn’t take any shit either and installs high standards.
He has been our best Manager since Wellens and is a good fit for where we are right now.
Honestly believe he saved us from the National League.

Hope you enjoy your trip to Cardiff's newish ground - will be interesting to get your opinion on it ?
It's only across the road from the old Ninian Park, so Canton is still the best place to get a Pint or food.
Our new manager (Brian Barry-Murphy) has copied Sunderland's policy of last year, in picking a young team for our first 2 matches.
So, not sure what level of team he picks tomorrow ?
1,800 travelling fans is a great turn-out, so hopefully things are looking up again for Swindon Town...

IH is a class person and manager that loves & understands the game, if others don't accept him for what he is it's their problem, he DID save you from the NL so how that would have panned-out if you'd gone down you can only speculate on with potential new ownership.

Acting "daft" in front of cameras is part of his persona imo but it's false because he's always in control of how things develop. And he's always working to improve what he has so if it's a CB to work with so be it.

Nice one Mate. Holloway will be picking a completely new side tomorrow thus expecting a fair few changes.
I pre booked parking to be safe at the International Sports Campus.
Could be a very open game. We definitely look suspect at the back and in need of a few players still.

Until these owners are gone unfortunately it won’t get much better.
Definitely things happening albeit slow and if it goes legal, which it could do will just slow everything down.
Reckon the Ground will be impressive.

No worries about today m8. Mickey Mouse cup - no one ever remembers this one. Better to rest the lads and get ready for the proper season and FA Cup / Papa Johns Cups.

Smart management today.

Decent and vocal away following last night for a Carabao Cup game.
7160 attendance with 1860 from Swindon.

First half we were all over the place and the bizarre formation and team selection showed. Second half made a fair few changes and we really gave it a go.
The young lad “Prince” from Southampton looks a handful. Scored on his debut and caused Cardiff problems with his pace.

@Rhyd59 - What a cracking stadium and puts our ramshackle tin shed to shame.
Makes you realise how far we have fallen.
Late night and motorway closures don’t help when you’ve already driven 2 hours in the dark.
Anyway an early train trip to Oldham Saturday and back to reality.

That is now 11 years getting knocked out of the Cup at the first round.
What a club to support. I would take another season in this woeful league if it meant these Chancers selling the club. There is an offer on the table and another interested party. Meanwhile no investment and rising admin costs. Just take your plumbing bag and fook off. An embarrassment of an owner masquerading as an international plumber yet no hot water in the ground and it’s falling apart. One stand condemned and another crumbling.

Wear something colourful, I went to Walsall to see Max Power wrongly sent off again and it's a very, very, grey place. Never thought anywhere could be greyer than Aberdeen but it succeeded. Just so incredibly grey.
Accrington's quite grey. I went there for a friend's wedding, quite a lot of years back admittedly but it seemed very depressing. Every other building was a church and between the churches were motorbike showrooms. A very weird place. Oh, and they were still giving those soup cups away with every 5 gallons of petrol like 10 years after the rest of the country's filling stations stopped.

Excellent support as always matey which was mentioned in dispatches in the match report on the BBC Sport website: 'Swindon, backed by a boisterous travelling contingent of around 1,700 fans'.

Be sure to wrap up warm on Saturday despite the current heatwave we are experiencing ahead of your trip to Coldham at the weekend. As you are well aware Boundary Park is anecdotally known as the coldest ground in the Football League and the nickname "Ice Station Zebra" was coined by Joe Royle due to its high altitude and often freezing temperatures particularly on matchdays.

I remember going to Oldham for a midweek fixture back in March 1996. It was so cold I saw a polar bear buying a jacket and a brass monkey crying it's eyes out.... enjoy 😉

Ticking down those days for Saturday now Mate and enjoy your first game. 🤞

👍, all roads lead to West ham. Wouldn't it be nice to start with a win? Trouble is it's easier said than done.

I’m starting to get a good feeling about this season, everyone is writing us off, including a certain Mr Shearer, wouldn’t it be nice to prove them all wrong.

No matter what division you are in (you kid yourself) an away win is a win.
First time in my life it’s been hot in Oldham.
A cracking day and my last can on the train.

Today though belongs to you.
Just incredible result. Just think as far as tonight and enjoy it.
Sunderland are back ha’way, ha’way.
Sunderland are back ha’way, ha’way.
Sunderland are back, Sunderland are back.
Sunderland are back ha’way, ha’way.

.
Appreciated by the way as always.
❤️
Won 2-1 away at Oldham

What a win for you.
Superb.

So how was today's game for you as a spectator? Were you largely in control of where the points would go barring some moment of uncontrollable-brilliance or officials b*lls up. Two first half goals then keep them at arm's length with a counter attacking option.

It was a good win at Oldham: IH has put his cards firmly on the table today 👍

Typical Swindon.
We’ve not started a game well all season however today the first 25 mins we were very good and should have been out of sight.
Two of our best players in midfield missing today and therefore had to move a few players around. Equally second half we looked a little leggy. Second half against Cardiff midweek we put a real shift in.
Oldham never really threatened although second half we were poor and with only one goal ahead could have lost an important away win.
508 faithful for an early kick off on SKY not bad in fairness.

We have a few young players making their senior debuts this season and can only think they will continue to improve. Evidently we’ve turned down a £300k bid from a Danish League Two side for Harry Smith. Out an out tall centre forward and utilised as a centre half when seeing out games. That was deployed this afternoon.

Two home games now before another early kick off arghhhh away at Crewe.
The battle of the steam trains.

Incredible result for Sunderland, a decent win for Hartlepool and a point for the Cumbrians. A warm day in Oldham though is a rare occasion and any snow or ice had well and truly melted at Ice Station Zebra.
An enjoyable away day for sure.
