Durham's one day cup campaign

It does seem like we aren't exactly taking the competition too seriously when at one point, it's unclear if Bedders was even contracted to play, and we "rest" our two best bowlers from the last game today, who've barely played all season anyway.

Where is De Leede?
Where is Parkinson?

I've said a couple of times that we are definitely treating the competition how the ECB want it to be treated - a second rate competition.

He left as he wanted to pursue more red ball opportunities.
Which is code for “fed up with this regime and lack of opportunities”. Leicestershire now have a fantastic team spirit, similar to that which our ODC squad had in 2021 when we reached the final under Alan Walker only to have North/Franklin over rule him on team selection in the final! And we lost!

After the second over it seemed as if our heads went down yet again even with a score of 387 to defend. Its the same sight we have seen throughout our red ball campaign this season at home as if the team believe they've got no chance of winning.

Absolutely useless and pathetic bowling performance
However how stupid was Lees to use a kid on debut to open the Bowling with Raine when we have a test bowler in the side
It was barmy to put pressure on what would be a very nervous young man to ask him to be part of the immediate bowling reply
It was a baffling and daft idea which was wide open for a. disastrous outcome which it was

And then when he came back and bowled two excellent overs including a wicket he was then withdrawn from the attack. Baffling.

I did say before the game you should pick your best XI

Now maybe they'd have gone for runs too. As Raine/Yusuf have gone for plenty.

But Killeen and Coughlin went for 38 runs off 16 overs on Monday. Daft they haven't played here.
Ridiculous that Robinson was preferred to Killeen today but we all know why. Ridiculous also that certain bowlers were rested when at most they were only going to bowl 10 overs. It seems that way too many players at Durham are getting an easy ride

Totally agree with you that Durham will win nothing by refusing to play their best 11

Not long home, and had tea, I am still shocked at what I saw today. I stand by everything I said earlier about Middlesex, their bowling and fielding were as bad as I've seen for a very very long time, crap. Never in a million years did I expect them to even get close to our score. I wasn't happy they dropped Killeen, something I discussed this morning with @The Red Telephone it smacks of pettiness after his excellent performance on Sunday. To allow Bailey to be opening with Raine was bizarre given we have a South African international in the squad.

We bowled 14 wides today which is totally unacceptable and 6 no balls which is equally as unacceptable, that is just rank bad bowling, nothing to do with the pitch which obviously favoured batting but the bowling today from both sides is about as bad as I have seen in a game from both sides, it was poor.

Is it acceptable to question Onions, because I'm not seeing much in the way of improvements in the bowling department, Potts a fine example but others also are just not doing it.

I really hope we can get back to winning ways on Friday, but this bowling performance has really knocked me and bothered me, it was that bad. Not sure why Ackermann wasn't tried.

A very poor defeat today

Was there today, and I don’t want to offend anyone but some people really need to get a grip and learn how to bloody accept losing a game of cricket like

Flat pitch, short boundaries, 30 degree heat, there was a mountain of runs scored by both teams, was a really enjoyable day

Some people need to get a grip in my opinion

More than "happy" to accept losing, however I'm more than "happy" to criticise and I feel today they deserve a lot of criticism for a very poor bowling display. Our bowling was absolutely shite and somehow worse than Middlesex. 14 wides has absolutely nothing to do with flat pitches, likewise the high no ball Yusef bowled near the end has nothing to do with flat pitches and short boundaries. I've seen a lot of us this season and our bowling has gone backwards and I believe it's more than a reasonable observation/opinion and equally I believe it's equally acceptable to question Onions because if we were doing well with the bowling, people would be praising and rightly so. I can't fault effort from both sides but it was very poor bowling from both sides, and some of the fielding was poor also, it made for an "entertaining" watch. I always try and defend Durham, but I can't defend that bowling performance today it was shit. We lost at Somerset last week and I felt we gave a good account of ourselves overall but today we fell way short with the bowling and that I feel deserves criticism.
