Jhon Lucumi - Transfer Rumour

Surely this is the most "round pegs, round holes" option we have? Obviously a quality/experience issue with Seelt but the other 3 I think they back to play in those positions this season

Hume - Ballard - Seelt - Reinildo

Actually thought Seelt was injured or I would have put him in. Dunno where I got that from mind 😆

No, Ballard and Reinildo are much better. And we will sign better before or after the 1st game, I would guess we'll have two new CB's in. Why panic and sign a Championship CB to sit on the bench the whole season?!
Are we basing Reinido's proficiency at centre-back on his two performances there last August and September for Athletico which no-one on here will have seen or his performance in last Saturday's meaningless friendly?

To be fair, you're right in saying Ballard and Reinildo 'will be better' but it's a bit like saying the shits is better than gastroenteritis. The alternative is Ballard / Seelt which makes me shiver. God forbid if Ballard picks up a knock. Then you're looking at competition winner Heldje or fresh from his loan at League 2 Notts County, Zak Johnson. Really hoping you're right on 2 CB's but there really should be one in by now and he should have have had a pre-season game.

The recruitment has been nothing far short of fantastic in midfield. However, even the most optimistic of fans must be nervous about the current options up top and more so, those at the back.

Bang on

It will be interesting to see what kind of CB we get. Ballard will get injured at some point so we need one big unit and someone with a bit of skill with the ball who isn't a tall lad but quick. I would imagnine both at least 6ft tall

Didn’t he play in a back three quite often there?.

Edit just checked his stats and he’s played 33 games as a pure centre back.

He’ll struggle to be invaluable then. More a nice to have. I doubt the back room team are placing too much value on him this season.
He'll be invaluable if it's a choice between Him, Johnson & Hyelde, which as it stands, with an injury to Ballard or Hume in this weekends friendlies then that's the choices

No point if they don’t rate him though mate. Would be a signing for signings sake. We know literally nowt man, they could be close on multiple targets for all we know. We’ve had all summer to go back in for mepham and they’ve chose not to.
Exactly. All summer we negotiated for 25-30m CB's and we might be close to one or two. Buying Mepham would be an extreme panic buy.

Twice in the league last season, August and September. Twice in the Champions League, September and October. All appearances were playing wide centre back part of a back 3. He's never played CB as part of a back 4 as far as I can see.

A journalist who watches Belgian football was on one of the podcasts not long after we signed him and said he’s poor at right back as he’s got not much pace. Said he would be fearful him playing right back against anyone rapid. Basically, said he’s totally wasted there.
If he's playing while Totally Wasted he should be home, sobering up FFs! 🤣 🤣

Buying a player on say a three year contract based on three games where we're short due to injuries is a little short sighted though.

I get it, theres nine points in those 3 games which could make us 70 million if they keep us up. But we bring him in, we play him as a stopgap til players arrive in/come back from injury, then keep him on the bench for the rest of the season, is that going to be great for morale for the other 35 games which we also need points in?

Yeah, but we want an expensive top CB, we are after one for months, we will eventually get one. Buying Mepham would be a panic buy IMO.

So he’s played centre back plenty then. You really think a player of his age and expertise playing as a centre back in a back three or a back four would make him shite like?. The blokes been trusted by Simone in that role someone that doesn’t give that out lightly especially at the back.
