Jhon Lucumi - Transfer Rumour

That's a lot of shuffling around to accommodate the lack of a centre back. Poor business if we reach the West Ham game without having invested in a single centre back.
The conundrum now is whether it’s better to be reactive and sign someone who isn’t really high up on the list of targets or be patient and wait it out to get the right player(s). At this point I’m not sure there is actually a right or wrong answer.

Mepham is not the answer for me but that being said if he was at the club now id feel a hell of a lot more comfortable going into the west ham game as opposed to where are now, fingers crossed we can get something over the line.
Mepham would instantly improve us. Our current defence is shocking. Mepham can’t cost a lot of money, he would be a good addition alongside another better CB and used interchangeably with Ballard. We need two CBs urgently.

As a premier league centre back, and our need for one, he's cost a lot more than his value ... in my opinion like. There's better value overseas I'd say, and I'm sure the club are diligently working on getting at least one in. It may not be until the end of the window ... that's unfortunate if so, but there it is

No, he was shocking when he came in at Wembley. I like him, but not the level we should go for in the Prem.

Very unfortunate given our fixtures. 5-10 in the market would be his value.

Better than we gave. He wasn’t shocking.

No way would I have Mepham back, he'd get torn apart against the pacey forward lines in this league. One thing that worries me a bit about Ballard tbh, we certainly don't need two CBs that lack pace.

Too much weight given to the early fixtures, we don't know who's going to do what (though of course we can have a good guess). 5 - 10 is too much, he's not what we need or want, he's done his job on loan, thank you Chris ... we'll probably bump into him at another championship club in one of the cups, or next season if we get flushed.

No, Ballard and Reinildo are much better. And we will sign better before or after the 1st game, I would guess we'll have two new CB's in. Why panic and sign a Championship CB to sit on the bench the whole season?!

Nah

Huggins has been poor pre-season. He's not strong enough and technically not up to it.

I don't think he is neither, but some are suggesting that we change the whole backline around. Playing Huggins means only one player is really out of position with Reinaldo having played at CB before.

If there's no new player in, we'll just have to do the best with what we've got, and that to me means trying to make the least changes as possible. It'll be hard enough on the lads playing in their normal roles.

Surely this is the most "round pegs, round holes" option we have? Obviously a quality/experience issue with Seelt but the other 3 I think they back to play in those positions this season

Hume - Ballard - Seelt - Reinildo

No point if they don’t rate him though mate. Would be a signing for signings sake. We know literally nowt man, they could be close on multiple targets for all we know. We’ve had all summer to go back in for mepham and they’ve chose not to.
