Robin Roefs 🇳🇱 compendium

As things stand, my uneducated guess would be:
  • First 2-3 keepers turned us down. They were all touted at +€20m
  • We probably have c. €70m left to spend
  • Spending €10m gives us an insurance policy if Patto isn’t good enough / lets this chap have a go being #1
  • Leaves us c. €60m left for 1/2 centre backs and/or a striker
Let’s not forget the Dutch league is pretty poor, Afonso Alves, Jozy Altitorde, Daly Blint etc. etc.
 Give awa man. Bucket loads of talent comes from the Dutch league. Also going off the comments from the RAWA meeting your way of the mark regarding finances.

This is unprecedented. You’d be foolish to compare. Everything we’ve done this window will be pointless if this is our new only keeper and the defence stays the same.
Our defence isn't going to stay the same (we'll bring in at least 2 cbs) but we very clearly believe that if you're good enough, you're old enough. This idea that if we buy a new young player, its because we have an older player lined up too because we'd never just trust a youngun as our starter is wishful thinking based on nothing, we've trusted young players repeatedly under this regime. He's the same age Patto was in our first year in the Championship.

This is our new goalie.

Aside from that fact that he's obviously pretty good at saving shots, the thing that we always really liked in the stadium was how much he comes off his line to grab a cross. He does that way better than the far more experienced Cillessen.

I really look forward to seeing him in the PL, hopefully he becomes the first choice GK
This, this is the big one as far as GK upgrades go. Patterson is a fine shot stopper but cross collection and box command are very important at the level we find ourselves.

Cheers mate 👍🏼

I'm remembering that save Patto made at Wembley 9 or so weeks ago
You'll all have seen it,
He signed an improved contract a couple of weeks ago. Said he wanted to stay,
Much as I'd wish him well it might be better for all concerned if he moves on. It wouldn't feel right watching him sitting on the sub's bench. He's still young, he needs games to improve.
He is not good enough unfortunately

You cant put Daley Blind in same sentence as Jozt Altidore
He was just as poor, just different level of transfer fee and expectation.

It’s generally a league of klobbers with the odd hidden gem.

A lot of talent comes through Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV - not sure about the others tbh. Haven’t read the RAWA minutes yet - how much more do we have to spend?

Fair enough point you make but I don’t think this lad will be a dud.

They didn’t say exactly however, they did say to expect a busy few weeks in the market and we’re on very firm ground regarding PSR

Whether or not he is #1 on day one, hopefully he will push Patto in the way that Burge, Moore, Bass haven’t been able to.

Would take whatever PSR we have and spend it on the best centre half we can buy plus a striker.

I like Patto but he has the distribution of an Evri delivery bloke
Evri knocked on my door tonight and says "I've got a parcel for your neighbour" I say "you've got the wrong house mate" and shut door.

Patto will stay and will compete with this fella, perhaps Patto will improve with our new GK coach and the competition.

Either way it is risky to go into a prem season with those two, who both have no experience at this level. It is essential to have a competent keeper to survive this league. I would have preferred if we bought one with premier league experience, I would have been satisfied with Ramsdale.

Reading through the NEC forum and what a lovely fanbase a few seem to be planning to come and watch us v Newcastle, I doubt they'll get tickets mind!

But they all seem to think they've got a great deal out of this which is slightly alarming, I mean none of them saying he's poor but think they're surprised after just one season he goes for that much

Been to many a game at the SoL and encountered Dutch lads who’ve come over for the game 🇳🇱

They could buy them through a fan club, we usually reserve some tickets for them to come over.

They'll be happy with the fee because it's a lot of money for a Dutch club of their size, it will go a long way if reinvested. Dutch fans take losing their players better than most, they take pride in developing players and watching them do well after selling them. They are like a farmer who's prize bull wins a ribbon.

For any stato-s I'd be interested to know to what degree 'allowing rebounds back into dangerous areas' is taken into account in the data. Just instinctively after couple of minute of watching Petrovic it's clear he's an insanely good shot-stopper but that I didn't really want him here (no offence to the lad). Opposite feeling with Roef, it just looks obvious, clear as day, safer.
So aye, to what degree is that accounted for by OPTA or whoever it is now?
