Robin Roefs 🇳🇱 compendium

Already spent more than most predicted so not sure what the argument is.

My assumption is we have decided to get another young keeper that has a few improvements on Patto (more commanding in area, better with feet) and the will compete rather than a more experienced keeper that would automatically be No.1 week in week out.

literally the second line of my comment.

On your other points - obviously I don’t know, and I’m not pretending otherwise.

But earlier we were targeting top keepers from Europe and now, post about five signings (?), we’ve landed a seemingly smart signing that’s undoubtedly data led but he is still an unproven keeper for half the fee we tried to get Bulka for.

That’s not the criticism people seem to think it is…

It’s just an observation that we have a certain budget and we’ve been spending as if we didn’t. This, to me, is the first sign we’re prioritising where we’re spending the money now. The fact I don’t know, is why I’m looking for signs of that.
Where did you come up with that, we offered €15m for Bulka and €13m for Roefs. That's a similar price, not half.
I think that was around the budget for the keeper from the start, we were never willing to pay the €25m for Petrovic, that's why we haven't pushed harder to get him.

Surely Patterson knew we had to bring in serious competition for the goalkeeping position. Moore seems a nice bloke, but there's no way he's a top level keeper.

Let’s hope he’s the next Edwin van der Sar rather than the next Robin Ruiter. And if we don’t get a wriggle on signing some quality defenders, Roefs is going to be pretty busy

I wasn’t too sure when the signing was first announced, so I looked into him a bit more to understand why we went for him. Now I get it. His ability really stands out. His strengths are clear: excellent handling, strong command of crosses, and real composure with the ball at his feet

Completely disagree.

Bulka and petrovic are a level of keeper that there aren’t many available for, so they’re priority number one.

If you can’t get those you get someone who’s not far behind in ability with loads of potential and cheaper

It doesn’t mean we have less money it means we’re being smart
Yes totally agree

Also, this signing is going to cost around £2 million on PSR. That’s f***ing nowt, all that does is mean we can spend more on CBs
I love the way everything seems cheaper this pre-season. Hopefully our signings are worth the money and we're not trying to sell them all for £2 million each next season.

Harsh on the OP, as demoting your number 1 keeper from the last few years is bound to cause a bit of upheaval possibly pushing the lad out the door.
If Patto was going to be third choice, training all week without ever being involved on matchday then I'd agree with you but he won't be. He'll be in a Premier League matchday squad every week, challenging for a starting place. That's a great place for any footballer to be - second only to being a regular starter in the Prem or one of the other top leagues. If he wants to go somewhere else where he'll be first choice then that won't be in one of Europe's top leagues, it would be the Championship or somewhere similar and that would be a step backwards.

Not really, that's just the average length of his kicks, their styles may have been different and he was instructed not to kick it as long. Patto just used to bray it out of play 😅
He's been watching PSG kick for touch and put pressure on the opposition from the throw-in. It's just nobody else was told about the plan. They've all made him look crapper than he really is.

Sounds good, I’ve noticed that the PSR hit is minimal for us. Is it because the long contracts?

Assuming those costs are similar straight away next season though? So say for arguments sake we have £20m PSR hit this season, would we straight away have £20m PSR hit next season?

Sorry if that’s confusing.
