I went to a talk in with Alec Stewart and he was asked about the worst sledge he had ever heard. He talked about Chris cairns bowling to Thorpe. He said Cairns was horrible. He was bowling a really good spell to Thorpe who played and missed ball after ball. Thorpe at the time was having marital problems and after playing and missing for the umpteenth time Cairns said ‘no wonder your wife looked elsewhere if you are as bad in bed as you are with the bat’ to which Thorpe replied ‘make sure you sister looks both left and right before crossing a railway line’. Cairns sister had died after being hit by a train and it seems Thorpe has died the same way ☹️

Yep, this really upset me, and affected me. Late to this but wanted to pay my small respects. He was my fav player growing up, and always there in our biggest moments.

The issues he had were very easy to see on screen, which made him more human and likeble

There has been some very emotional tributes by former team mates, not often see you Athers and nass close to tears, and Joe root, who was a pallbearer at his funeral, which tells you how close they are

The details of how he died are very upsetting and very hard to shake and I really feel for his wife, children and father

My best friends Dad took his life several years ago the very same way. Incredibly difficult.
