I suppose with Hampshire its convenience. Relatively modern, decent facilities, hotel on sight. Perfect for broadcasters too.I think it's because the tourists traditionally are given a game at "the home of cricket". Lords only get 2 tests if there are 2 touring teams. Lords and the Oval raise by far the biggest revenue. Hence Oval always hosts the final tests. Provincial grounds e.g. Chester-le -Street can't get anywhere near those revenues. The only criticism is why Hampshire appear to be in the circuit.
Its just totally devoid or soul or charm and in the middle of nowhere.
