Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

Brentford fan here, popping over to see your reactions to the news about our potential signing of Jordan Henderson, so please accept my apologies. Even greater apologies as my family is from North Shields, so I was brought up with another team pressed upon me, even though Brentford was near where we lived. I’m a frequent visitor to NS, and been to a few games at the SoL… as well as the other place.

There’s a number of questions "why Brentford?" We’re, like Brighton, owned by a man who’s made his money from analysing and selling sports data to the betting industry, Matthew Benham (also a relatively local boy). This means, in addition to the Academy, buying young talent, developing them and selling them on, e.g. Bryan Mbeumo. We’ve always had some older players who are role models and mentors.

This summer, we’ve lost Ben Mee (CB, 35); Mark Flekken (GK, 32); Christian Nørgaard (DCM, 31), all respected professionals, vocal and mentors. So, replacing them with a player who ticks all the boxes, persuading him to get released by Ajax and who will know about ‘The Brentford Project’ though young players we’ve bought from Liverpool, makes a lot of sense to us. He’ll get as much game time as he can; we’ve got 2 young DCM’s, 21 & 19, coming through.

I appreciate I’ll get some abuse but be gentle with me.

Find it hard to believe that Hendersons people didn't contact SAFC, wouldn't be surprised if we just simply wouldn't offer more than a 1 year deal, Brentford seems such a strange move for him

I think the club have moved on from making sentimental signings of old players. It’s not the image the club wants to portray in my opinion, especially after signing such young players to add to a very young squad. I actually think this is the first time that I remember the club looking like a serious operator in the transfer market. There is a lot to be said about getting your business done early. We usually have nothing until 11:55 on the last day of the transfer window. I can smell professionalism and it’s very unusual.

I'm disappointed he didn't sign for us. Not sure how he'll fit in at Brentford but we have a lot of young players and hardly any players with Premier League experience. I was hoping he'd bring calm, ball retention and leadership to our group.

Our loss unfortunately.

No abuse coming to you from my direction.

Glad you've got him, and from what you say, he could be a good addition for you.

Just glad we had the sense to avoid getting involved.

We’re not sure, assume he’ll be a 60-minute DCM but will wait and see. It should be clearer by our game up there.

I’m under the impression that we contacted him first but that may be wrong, as I said, there’s a lot of connection between Liverpool and us. It won’t be announced until mid next week out of respect for the weekend activities centred on Anfield.

If you are implying I’m a Saudi fan that is pathetic. I’m from Northumberland and plenty of great SAFC supporters up here.

I’m may have a different opinion to you on this but absolutely no need for that comment or language.

An apology would be goid but given the level of your debating skills I think that would be unlikely.

I have been accused by this Neanderthal above that I’m a mag and a **** :)

I’m red and white through and through but I have a different view to him.

I await my apology :)
You certainly sounded like a mag.if your a red and white You need to support your team in what they are trying to do.

Thanks, and welcome....
Stay here, because we might need a + - on here to stop weak willed people getting into a lather if he does well.

Would be disappointed if Henderson was wanted by us but he decided to go elsewhere mind as a local lad. I suspect we never made an approach as we sign youth with development potential and sell on value.

Do I get an apology for you calling me a mag and a **** for having a different opinion to you?

Thousands of games of ‘support’ is my credentials by the way.

I'm disappointed he's not coming here. When it gets into mid winter and we've had a couple of bad results, as we will do, and few of the lads are at the ACON, we'll need leaders and a bit of experience to steady us.
I just hope the recruitment team have a similar type of player in France or Italy or wherever earmarked to that role for us.
