Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

We keep praising brighton and they've signed the likes of Lallana and Milner at ages even older than henderson. I think people are underplaying the value he'd add tbh, especially given we'll be without Diarra and Sadiki in December.
They were also cheap/ free older players
If we have spent all our cash , free transfers of premier League players that most clubs don't want is fine
But if you're telling me you'd prefer a free transfer dacoure over a 20 million 21 yr old from France , cos dacoure has premier league experience , then I'd be surprised

It would seem to me that one of the factors that would make signing Henderson a good idea is how straightforward and simple it would be. If it becomes complicated, I’d have thought those-in-charge wouldn’t be that interested in fannying about or spending time and effort when other options are available and being actively pursued.

I may be completely wrong but the fact that there’s been no announcement or news on this Henderson signing, suggests strongly to me that it’s not happening.

Personally I’m fine with it, either way.

Got to agree with that

Oddly, I now don’t see it happening as I don’t think he gets gauranteed game time with us.

I’m basing this on nothing other that being caught up in the giddy hysteria now about our transfer dealings to date. I’ve never seen the new signings play before, but I suspect with the prices paid that we would be looking to give regular game time to both Diarra and Sadiki and to develop them both.

From what I understand they are both sitting midfielders, neither are 10s(?) but rather 6 or 8, and so they and Dan Neil and Henderson would all be competing for 2 places.

Given Hendersons reselection for England under Touchel, I don’t see him wanting to jeopardise his place by sitting on the bench and not being a guaranteed starter here. So I think he will continue playing in one of the second tier European leagues like Portugal or France, or just go to another PL club who are weaker in that area than we are now.

Given the signing we have made so far, I think an organising influence on the pitch might be a good idea. Whether that is Henderson remains to be seen but I think we’re crying out for a defensive midfielder with bags of experience.

Apparently a Sunderland lad an ex player of ours who has captained Liverpool, won everything and is still a member of the England squad who is highly regarded in the game by anyone you speak to, isn’t good enough to help a team that literally has almost zero PL experience!

Can't see him coming back. Will want guaranteed playing time ahead of the internationals and we can't offer that.

He’s a very good player who’s won everything, I’d want him to cajole and encourage in our relatively inexperienced dressing room.

I wouldn’t want him starting Premier League games though.

If a compromise can’t be reached then we move on…

We won’t be playing with a 10. It’ll be 433 with a 6 and two 8s. Everyone we have in midfield currently can play any of those positions

If Browne, Ekwah and Triantis go (or the latter two are deemed absolutely not good enough) we need another CM I think

Fookin hell.

You can have a go at the people on here all you want, but it seems the top brass at the club don't want him, and that's what matters.

He’s a huge upgrade in the players mentioned in your last paragraph, but I’m not sure we can offer the game time he will want ahead of the new signings.

I think we are done with CM acquisitions and anybody else brought in will be a bit younger with a view to them challenging the first team for a place, a bit like Watson will be for Brighton.
