England v India - Third Test, 10/07

Watching England play cricket these days is a bit like watching Jim Baxter playing football for us back in the day.

Sometimes brilliant.
Often not.
But always a hoot.

They love Bashir so he'll play. Crawley must be good at golf so he'll play.
🙄 - this narrative is getting really boring

Top 7 won't change
Woakes will play
Archer will play
Bashir will play
Final place will be a toss up between Overton & Tongue as I don't think they will risk Atkinson
Cook surely won't play in the same side as Woakes.

Interestingly listening to a couple of cricket podcasts after the second test, both Steve Harmison (Talksport - Following On) and Mark Butcher (Wisden) were talking separately about how well they thought Bashir bowled, that he was bowling better and he was just in need of bowling on the right pitch in the fourth innings to show what he can do.

I don’t see it myself and can’t imagine taking him down under but people who have played at the highest level do seem to rate what they see highly.

I said in the last thread, he let's fatty Key stick it up his poop chute. It's the only explanation
I mean it has to be something ridiculous (non cricketing reasons) why he's selected. If I remember rightly he had some single figure scores in division 2 earlier this season? He's just not good enough. I hope he goes on and scores tons now and shuts me up, however on current form he should not be opening for England.

You act like it.

Do you honestly believe professional cricketers, and proven winners like Ben Stokes and Brendan McCullum select a team (and endanger their reputations) based on being mates with a player, rather than what they contribute to the team? It's boring and lazy to dismiss team selection as "because they like golf" or "they make a good cup of tea".

Rob Key, Ben Stokes and Baz MCullum have forgotten more about cricket than you will ever know.....

Golf fan i assume?
Never played or watched it. Much to my Dad's chagrin

Within the ECB circle/clique/setup yes I fully believe that

Worried about Carse. He was limping and generally looked knackered last test. Given the ECB have been managing his workload preventing him from playing for Durham on several occasions, I'm surprised at this inclusion
