Leeds agree £10m for Longstaff

He played those premier league minutes so well they've sold him for less than we sold Watson who'd played even less in the Championship.

And the mags aren’t interested in him even as a homegrown (they’re in the Champions League!) squad player.

Edit: just read Leeds forums celebrating that in 2019 Martin Keown said Longstaff was “better than Declan Rice”.

A lot to break down there - all of it ludicrous.

So we’ve established everyone we sign is mint and everyone else is shite?

Got it. What a rubbish signing that is. Waste of money.

He's objectively not very good.

Yep, he's also several years older and therefore unlikely to improve.
He’s a run of the mill very average premiership player. Competent at most things who quickly disappears with better players around him. Howe would literally run his preferred midfield into the ground than trust Longstaff in a game. But he’s got “experience” so must be mint🥴

Dan Neil is untested at the top level, but there's a very decent chance he's a better player than Sean Longstaff.

What is that based on apart from Sunderland bias though?

Longstaff is 27 and has played a couple of hundred times for a top half top flight side and in the champions league. He has been up against the very best. He has very similar statistical returns at that level (I know the SMB loves stats) to Neil in the second and third tier from similar positions.

Longstaff isn’t a world beater by any stretch of the imagination but the lack of objectivity on this thread is mad like

I think he's a decent signing for them at that price. He's a steady, unspectacular (probably bottom half) PL player. He's 28 coming up, so there's no big resale value in him, but he's got good PL experience.

I don’t think I’ve read anyone on here describe him as mint. And a component premier league player is a good signing for a newly promoted side.

Black and White thinking is a genuine, established, damaging thought pattern in cognitive psychology. You are exhibiting it here.

Nobody is saying all ours are mint. We have no idea, but the unpredictability is exciting. Longstaff we think mediocre and there’s plenty of evidence.

His brother Matty, who was supposedly the better brother out of the two also played in the PL, maybe we should be buying him for his experience. Btw, where is he now?...

Tbh, with the amount of games the mags will be playing this season and the usual suspensions to the 2 dirty Brazialians in midfield, I'm surprised they're letting anyone go when they actual need to add to their squad, not reduce it further.

Its nuts.

28 year old experienced player for £12m.

For a team that has just been promoted and favourites to go straight back down.

He has been out of the side in recent seasons due to Newcastle having one of the strongest midfields in the league.

Just can't understand the uproar.

Forgive me if I’m wrong but I think I saw you mention us signing Oviedo and watching that type of experience take us down.

I also saw us sign N’Dong, Djilibodgi, Denayer et al that season. There was an aspect of exciting unpredictability with some of those recruits and they were dreadfully unfit for purpose. Cabral, Moberg Karlsson, Diakite, Celutska, Roberge et al prior to them.

It’s easy to be selective.

The younger Longstaff showed promise and went no further. He played maybe a dozen times, did his ACL and was let go. Aside from being brothers, there’s no real logical link to make there

He is a solid player, no diva pretensions, hard working and experienced in the epl, with about 5 more years left in his legs. £10m is a really good deal for Leeds.
Wouldn't have him here because he took part in the antics after the fa cup win at the SoL and said "his is the best day of my life".
