Callum Doyle

I'm not saying we should get him back but because at 17 he wasn't great at times for us people just write him off. It's fkn mental tbh
Unfortunately, you had the others saying he'd go on to get a hundred caps. I can't understand people criticizing players while they are playing for us, especially during the game. If a player is doing his best I'm happy.

Even one of his team mates said it, Bailey Wright.
Doesn't help but still, writing a player off at 17 is mental

Maybe at 17 years old he wasnt the finished article. Mental I know
Maybe not mate - but he didn’t oooze class. In fact he was a weak link at times. Bellingham, Watson, rigg etc all comparable ages - and they do look like they might make it right.

He was in no way a stand out player in the championship last season. In fact if we’d signed him last season he wouldn’t have got on our bench.

I’m hoping we have better in mind for the prem!

so why has he gone on to play over 100 games at the top end of the championship and have a bundesliga club bid over 6m for him? he was a 17 year old kid in his first season of professional football ffs

Because he’s developed? But what has he developed into - a £6m player who is ok in the championship. Fair enough.

Not saying he wasn’t a pro footballer - he’ll have a career I’m sure. I’m just saying he was nothing to go back to. Wouldn’t even get on our bench now let alone with hopefully a signing or two

That's simply not true btw, we had Leo Hjelde coming off the bench last season. Doyle is comfortably better than him.

And Doyle is better than him? Okie dokie- I’m not certain. It’s certainly close enough to be debatable. That very fact puts Doyle in a certain category of ‘ok but not pulling up trees’ right?

It’s crazy that people write a player off at that age . The kid looked a future England captain when he first turned up but like Rigg , Bellingham and virtually every other player of that age , he suffered burn out towards the end of the season .
Very few teenagers are able to perform at optimum level for even a few games never mind a whole season .

He didn't look anything of the sort man. People got carried away with this kid because he had decent technical ability on the ball and he was 17. As a defender he was extremely poor from the off. You can half expect some of it give his age, but despite his frame and size he simply didn't seem to have enough desire to defend and he was also hopeless in the air.

I lost count of the times he showed pace and ability breaking forward, then couldn't be arsed to chase back with any level of desire. There was lack of desire, determination or simply he isn't a natural defender and its likely why we have the appraisal from a Norwich fan we do on this thread and whilst at Leicester he often ended up towards the left back role.

Yes , yes he is. In the last 3 seasons Doyle has played for league winners, play off finalists and a regular for a midtable side. Hjelde has been a bit part player for us and barely used by Leeds.

It isnt even close to being debatable

Maybe at left back he is as he clearly has more ability on the ball. I wouldn't really want either un the centre half role at Championship level.

He's just a better player. Love Hjelde for his character but let's be honest he's pretty poor. Doyle has had 3 seasons at Championship level and more than held his own.

Callum Doyle is comfortably better than Hjelde. Hjelde seems to have improved due to the positive energy on here after the play off win.

Had we lost that final or semi final he would be high up on the list of those we would want to peddle. Because he’s cack

So he’s slightly better than hjelde? Ok - not sure what that proves tbh! He’d get on our bench sometimes then… without any signings.

The point surely is he’s developed into just a solid champ player. Not sure I disagree with that…

No axe to grind against Doyle tbf - just saying he was poor for us when he was here (admittedly he was 17), and hasn’t developed into anything more than a decent champ player yet.

No he's comfortably better than Hjelde.
He is a solid champ player. At 21 he can still improve and develop, I'm not saying we sign him but the way people go on about him based on his performances for us when he was only 17 is a bit, well, mental.

No axe to grind at all mate. He shouldn’t have been playing for us at 17 and we improved immeasurably when he stopped playing regularly (along with that German in goals).

Don’t dislike him in the slightest. Not sure he’ll ever be more than a decent champ player. And tbh his form/clubs he’s played for kinda demonstrate that

He's 21 and has played around 140 first team games as well as at every level so far for his country. He won promotion with Leicester.

Get a grip

Agreed. The Hjelde love in on here because he’s a nice guy and not because he’s capable. Doyle had a good loan stint and has had a steady career so far. I reckon he has the higher ceiling but I’d not want either here next season.
