Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

I too have changed my thoughts on this. Really wasn’t bothered a few weeks back, not due to the Saudi thing but more his age. However if the wages are within our structure I think it can only be positive for everyone. Even if he doesn't play every minute of every game (few will even be expecting this) he still has a lot to bring. Think it would be an incredibly emotional day the game he runs out in a Sunderland shirt at the SoL in the prem again.

Tbh the last time I saw him play was a while ago and his playing style still seemed to me to be the old box to box energetic midfielder type. The question in my mind (which the scouts etc will no doubt figure out) is whether in his mid 30s he has adapted his game so his experience tells and he doesn't have to rely on his legs as much

Your answer to 1 is silly. If I'd spent the last ten years making the ridiculous amount of money Henderson had around the world I probably would be now working for nothing.

I wouldn't be doing the amount of work a premier league footballer has to. So I'm not expecting him to work for nothing here. Id like to think he will do some things for charity for nothing though

I suspect that anyone who thinks it is necessary for him to play for free, due to some moral debt from having half a season playing in a foreign country, will find another reason to have a problem with him if he did play for free.
It’s an absolutely bonkers idea.
Now you might very well think that, but of course I couldn't possibly comment.

If Henderson signs, I think it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
1. Why? Why not?
2. Born leader and highly spoken of, still in England squad because of this. Is there such a thing as a born leader? I'm not so sure. He may be highly thought of in some circles, possibly not in others.
3.An absolute example of what hard work can achieve, has been in their shoes, local lad, why would they be overawed? It sometimes happens.
4 been a pivotal member in some madsive dressing rooms over the years, would imagine he is a better influence than some unknown french lad who struggles with the lingo. Which "unknown French lad" is that?
5 see point 2. Ditto.
Please see above. The interesting thing is that I'm merely posing questions. The reason for that is that I don't know the answers. For reasons that escape me, you seem to think you do.

Just my opinion but I don’t think we will make any signings until July 1st. Potentially could be related to the start of the new psr period but also we aren’t officially confirmed as a premier league team until after the AGM which is some time around now.
Ours and Burnley’s PSR resets on 31 July if I remember rightly. Most other clubs are June 30.

Never mind just seen it’s SEB

I am happy to give him a chance whereas you want him to play for nowt and am looking for any reason to question his signing with pure bollocks about him upsetting the dressing room even though all the evidence suggests he is a positive influence in the dressing room, each to their own I suppose

But why would you think he shouldn’t get paid, or that his wage should be given to a charity? I’m not getting why anybody would do that except maybe bill gates or that ilk.
I simply asked the question. The reason I asked it is because it seems to me, having read much but not all of this thread, that what he did by making certain virtuous statements & then going to Saudi Arabia for the money has divided opinion. The question itself cannot be answered by making a statement of fact (because there is no definitive answer) but by a (possibly further) expression of opinion. Would it be a good thing for him to effectively play for nothing? Would that be some sort of act of redemption? He seems to acknowledge he's done something wrong because I think he's apologised. Mind, that's only what I've heard & read so I'm not asserting it as fact!

Each to their own indeed. A few simple questions seem to arouse such ire.

Still a fit lad and with our pacey players up front imagine Hendo and Enzo popping the ball over the top for the speed merchants like Mayenda and Isidor. Hendo could play for at least another season or 2 then do some coaching.
I don't disagree with any of that, although none if it addresses the questions posed. Anyway, I'm off now to continue with my hand drawn facsimile of the illuminated manuscript of the Lindisfarne Gospels. I may be away some time....
Looking for any excuse to slag off his signing, at least be big enough to admit it and not go about it slyly, simple questions based on what? Hendersons well known disruptive influence 😂
For someone who almost certainly knows nothing about him, you seem to know an awful lot about him.

Similarly, for someone who doesn't know me, you give the impression you know an awful lot about me, too.

You also seem to have failed to understand the questions. They raise hypothetical issues. They are intended to stimulate healthy, intelligent & open-minded discussion. You choose to draw inferences that tend to bolster your previously held opinions. Some people call it confirmation bias. Thanks for your contribution.
