SOL expansion

I think it was Ballast Wiltshire that built the SOL. They also had recently built Ajax’s stadium hence playing Ajax for the opening game.

Not sure who the contractor was for the N Stand extension
It was Mowlems.
would like to see something like this (if and when of course), something unique - bit different
I'm guessing something different will need major construction and cost many times more.

I think with the new Keel Line bridge sight lines hitting the South stand we really get a good architect to make the stand look something special as you cross the bridge.

I’d love to have the skills to be an architect for that commission!
I think externally we could quite easily make it look more impressive. Glass fronted bars overlooking the city etc.
Leicester's proposal looked decent, but that might be costly.

We should go full on brexit. Old fashioned bricks and mortar, never did Ibrox any harm. Can hoy a picture of the king up aswell.

But there aren’t IF we stay in premiership.
IF we can stay up and then another season then it would be time to increase to 55
We spent 10 years in the PL, averaging 41,230. And that was during the time we gave away a lot of free tickets.
Now, if we were to find some sort of success then I could see that pushing up a few thousand, but talk of "needing" to expand is premature IMHO

We didn't routinely give away free tickets. There were loads of special offers through schools etc though.

The free ticket thing is a bit of a mag invention. I agree with the rest of what you're saying though.

in one part thats a baseline to follow but in current reality of football exposure (especially in premier league levels) its not. We've been in the wilderness in the last 8-10 years and football has grown massively and tbh left us behind in some part so we cannot really gauge what we think we will average from 10-20 years ago. We have a core of around 28k-32k no matter what and the premier league will bring those extra 8k into the stadium easy.

We now have (some might not agree) ambitious owners and a lot of the world know who Sunderland are now.....in conclusion, completely different time and era of football from the last time we were here - and football support in general. The premier league is a beast and this will bring a hell of of lot more than 41,230 people through the door

We won't get a single league attendance that low this coming season.

Agree. There were some shitty seasons in that 10 year spell and I think we'll start the season will full houses. Club needs to make a decision on the away fans because the current setup means we have 2,000 empty seats even when we "sell out"
A few were saying they're doing it next season after this one. It's probably only a priority if we stay up though.

I would like to see a situation where we stay up and they move away fans to nec, we sell a few more season tickets up there and see how demand is on a match by match basis.

Moving them from the South Stand was a massive mistake. The stadium was built to house them there. Can't move them back now, so they are going to have to be shoehorned in somewhere where they can be segregated without the need for loads of empty seats

I agree. The whole move was stupid. I was displaced at the time (seat became BBC). We were encouraged to move to the SS, given priority etc. The problem is half the people weren't really the standing sort, like my dad's 80, for example.

South stand was canny from my point of view, but couldn't stay because it was no good for my dad. Ended up back where we started. 😂 The singing end is/was ok, but I think the atmosphere was better with the back/forth with the away fans before the move.

Is that extension?
It's apparently the latest in corporate hospitality with a direct route underground to the best seats in the ground. That way you don't have mix with the peasants. It's also like the Tardis as it's massive inside as this is just the reception area with the peasants outside looking in. I think I recognise a few posters from here

There's no evidence to suggest the next generation of kids will be unable to get tickets. If games get sold out regularly then the club will likely introduce ticket resales. As we've already seen there are plenty of games, particularly mid week, where attendances are lower, so others would still have the opportunity to attend once games sell out, as season ticket holders would be able to sell their ticket. Just one idea that would negate the need for a vanity project stadium extension

Some clubs do that but some like us may not want to do that just yet. Why offer better seats for resale and therefore potentially not selling the empty seats so making less revenue given the ST holder will be wanting money back?

Aye when we have a membership scheme with 1,000s wanting tickets with guaranteed sell outs then aye they'll probably offer it.

I think the likes of Man Utd also have limits of resale as you must go to 17 of the 19 games. There was that talk of the 70% for kids for us so it's possibly an indicator of what the club will do in the future by restricting resales.
