James Minto

Selected for England U19 squad against India U19, so looks like he'll be missing from last week in June until mid July if selected for tests aswell

Am I reading that right that the Minto household is just the 3 brothers looking after each other?

If so hope two them smash it as cricketers and can look after each other well.

Link to get article past pay wall if anyone has already had their free article.

Looks that way. Sounds like the club are looking after them well though

Aye, he was from a single-parent family and his mam died leaving him to be the head of the household.

I'm not sure that the Durham model can be replicated elsewhere nor that any model suitable for the midlands and the south should be replicated in Durham.
The reason? History. Cricket in Durham thrived based on Colliery Welfares and still does even though the collieries have gone and the welfare hall too or have changed into community centres. They should support the existing structures here. (It's similar in South East Northumberland and also South Yorkshire and parts of Lancs.)

If a good talent appears, such as a potential Joe Root, don't take him away to go into a public school on a bursary, support him in place, with his local club and with Durham. If he doesnt make the 1st class game he can continue to play locally. I think that would be better for the overall health of local cricket rather than thinking of schools as the ideal.

Maybe this article should be compulsory reading for those professional cricketers from a more privileged background who are whining about being asked to play 'too much'.

Ty for sharing the article

Just been dismissed for 46 batting 9 for the England Under 19’s against India. Valuable partnership of 100 to steer them to a half decent score though.
Interesting U19 lineup that. Ralphie Albert is Jimmy Whites grandson, Flintoffs son is in there also. Then Minto adds some Durham interest and 1st inns centurion Singh is a current Durham Uni student.
