SOL expansion

I 100% think any future expansion would start with the south stand, it’s the natural end to start with going round from the west, and also has more room behind it and the closest link to the town and new bridge.
Surely the East stand has the most room for expansion ?

You say only 7k below as if it’s a small number. It’s almost 15% of the ground.

There’s just no need to extend until people are queueing outside and being turned away.

Let's be honest, the only time is makes sense from a business point of view is when the equilibrium on a basic supply and demand curve is above the capacity. Makes more sense to increase prices until then. Obviously the likes of Leeds etc which people keep bringing up have a massive waiting list so it will be above it.

Well we are playing in a different league this year mate,

Season tickets are likely to be sold out by the weekend so there is the 1st argument.

IF we can re establish ourselves in the PL, I see no reason we can’t push average attendances into the 50s.

Your only 500 off mate but 46500 is our current capacity.

I agree, if we’re still in the PL in 2028 and we don’t have enough seats, then extend.

Doing it now when we could be back in the champ in 12 months with a 40k average is nuts imo.

Yes but what I'm saying is that we may get around the 47k for some games and our average attendance this season might end up at something approaching 45000 - in other words we aren't far off the actual capacity.

\I'm not advocating for a stadium expansion as said on one or two of my posts - just to make that clear - but the point is we don't have all that much room for many more fans this season. It's not as if an extra 10000 will be turning up - but an extra 6000 or so might.

Must be an idiot then. At this present moment in time the Stadium IS too small. And don’t get me started on the need to expand with regards to attracting the biggest gigs etc. Look around the country and you’ll see most clubs looking to make their stadium bigger and improve hospitality. There’ll be times this season where it’s sold out but there was demand for thousands more who can’t see the game. This is just off the back of getting promoted so if we have success what’s it going to be like then ? Some people need to start seeing the bigger picture.
You don't expand capacity on the basis that we might have success further down the line. If we start selling out regularly and demand exceeds supply then they might look into it. That's literally how every other club operates

I don't get the point being made here or on social media. the point being made appears to be that we didn't get 49k average crowds and because that's the capacity of the stadium our crowds of 40k are shit.
People who say that (usually fans of teams with crap support and small stadiums) seem a bit thick.

Absolutely. We clearly need more corporate at the mid-level offering. Quinn’s & Business lounge type as they’re always sold out.

Needing more corporate and needing more seats aren’t the same thing.

And then 24 months later we could be back up mate, I’m not advocating for east stand extension, that would be too big a next step, but I think South Stand extension would be just right.

I’m also not advocating doing it, IF it affects our player budget, it should only be done If we have the ownership/outside investment to do it.

We've got fantastic supporter numbers, especially considering those 6 teams sell season tickets for a pittance.
Yes and people don't seem to appreciate it. given the size of Germanys population - most populous country in Europe (unless you count Russia) - as an additional factor - our crowds were absolutely mint.

What you have to ask yourself is what crowds could a successful Sunderland get.(similar to what the mags are doing but without the blood money)

Would a 47k stadium be big enough?
Would it fuck.

55k if we were regularly getting in the champs league would be just right I think.

Definitely not big enough in that scenario. It only takes a few months to extend though, I think they'll do it if the demand is there.

I think they'll move away fans first and create an extra 2k capacity immediately and for pretty much free first though.

Agreed.

We could, and sunderland as a YoYo club are never going to need more than we’ve got now.

Probably not but we'd have to get there first before making big financial commitments on expanding the ground
