Clarkson’s farm

That's not a pub, it's a theme park.
Looks like a decent pub, but F**k me, a relaxing drink and a meal with 10,000 other people crammed in there is definitely not on the cards. It bet the place is rammed all the time, or ameringue?

Suspect a lot of the crowds were there because it was opening day and the cameras and stars would be there.

Also a lesson not to go to a new pub or restaurant on opening day as there are always problems. Give them a while to sort things out.

Reading the online reviews it sounds like that's what it is. Fast food that fastly drains your wallet.

I was there recently and it was empty. As in completely empty.

I can imagine it might not be much fun if packed out

It's a TV show. He needs friction. I'm sure a lot of the limitations - and the 'mistake' about the date of the Bank Holiday - were scripted in advance. Otherwise, how would they have filled eight episodes?

I wondered who'd want to queue for hours to visit Clarkson's pub. Just watched the last two episodes, and my wife now wants to go there for her birthday. Odd that she never wanted to visit the very same pub ten years ago, when we passed it every other week while living in the Cotswolds.
She`s wanting to trade you in for Gerald man ;)

Enjoying it so far.

He's not getting any better at it, is he? Although that's the whole point of the show isn't it.

He might not be a proper farmer, but he's highlighted a lot of issues with uk farming.

If it wasn't him doing it the government and the ideologically superior would be treating the show like Adolescence......

I find its the whole point. Every fella thinks they would be able to do the labour on a farm etc but despite after over a decade of owning the land and about 5 years of working it, he still knows absolutely nowt about it compared to those brought up on farms.
Been a brilliant program highlighting massive issues with both councils and govt but also the need for british farming.
Shown clarksons side who genuinely cares about people rather than the top gear/GT personas that he shares with RH and JM

He has the fame & clout to resist it (& the money) but I would give him some credit if he highlighted the monopoly big supermarkets have & their underhand practices.
People want cheap food and the supermarkets want profits. Someone is going to get squeezed.

Yeah, I get that but if JC rails against IHT & "Rachel from accounts" surely he could use his programme to help poor farmers?
I agree. What he has done is to create a small farmers co-operative where he has assembled a number of local (to him) farmers who supply him with chickens, pork, beef, milk, veg etc. he takes their produce and pays them more that the other larger buyers would give them.

This is, however, fraught with logistical issues as the chef at his pub explained.

This is why most restaurants use food wholesalers who are experts are plugging gaps in the supply train.

Exactly. You need a range of suppliers. Can't always rely on the eggs being laid from one farm..

There’s also the issue around the usage of beasts. A cow can, in theory, feed a thousand people. But what do you do with the rest of the animal if all your customers want sirloin steaks.

I get that other meat can go in pies, stews etc but steak is a high margin, quick turnover option.

I love the show but have no desire to visit the pub. Take your own Coca Cola 😂

Don't drink Coke so that wouldn't bother me. Promoting British produce is all well and good but refusing to serve coffee, non-English wine or pepper is rather limiting and just pushes prices up needlessly

There are some good English wines but they cannot compete on price or variety with those from abroad.
