Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

I disagree with any vastly rich footballer going to play in Saudi. They don't need the money, the standard is shit and the Saudi population have no great interest in football.

I would have no issue with us signing Henderson because he quickly moved on. Wilson wasn't a vastly rich footballer when he moved to Russia.

But to defend Saudi is madness. The are a backward, barbaric nation stuck a hundred years or more in the past.
Good post and I would say pretty much sums up most SAFC supporters views.

Saudi Arabia is changing. It is probably the most progressive of the middle eastern Islamic regimes. Women can now drive and the permitted age for girls to marry is now 16. It is still illegal to be LGBTI in Saudi but it is not now considered a criminal offence. It doesn’t sound progressive but it is light years ahead of the hardline Islamic regimes like Iran, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen , etc

Let’s all hope for further change in Saudi!

Hendo is perfectly at liberty to go there and play for a private club, and any influence Hendo would have in his local community would be positive - he is a top guy!

That's the kind of word salad a politician would be proud of.

"it's illegal to the LGBTI in Saudi but it is not now considered a criminal offence"

Wanna fill in the rest?

"however homosexual acts are a criminal offence under sharia law which underpins Saudi law, and being found guilty of committing homosexual acts is still punishable by the death penalty, indeterminate imprisonment or flogging".

How progressive...

"yeah they're really progressive in Saudi Arabia, OK they might whip you hard as punishment if you're gay but look at least you can show your ankle now'
