Cirkin issues

Not exactly going to cheer the fans up as we were going through a bad patch and hearing one of our up and coming young players had signed for another club after playing a handful of games.
Still stick by I think majority were pissed off with the timing of it rather than owt else and lashed out. Was silly for it to come out with the season still in play. I really think his errrm well known future father in law may have been an issue keeping it quite.

We seem to have 2 schools of thought, and actually I'd say they're (to a degree) both correct.

1. We'll keep lots of our players, they can step up/deserve the chance
2. We need lots of new players, current squad not good enough

Both of those are probably correct. This is a young side that has grown (and will continue to grow) and will improve. We've got a great team spirit and the core of the side deserves the opportunity to be part of a PL Sunderland squad. Some of these lads have been with us since League 1.

We also know we will need to improve the squad. Being realistic, there's an absolute boat load of players on the fringes who will need to leave, either on loan or permanent.

Pembele, Ba, Rusyn, Bishop, Anderson, Poveda, Browne, Hemir, Aouchiche, Matete, Ekwah, Blondy will all go permanently if think. Watson has gone, Jobe might go, Mepham may go back.

Then you have decisions to make over the PL use of the likes of Triantis, Huggins, Alese, Seelt, Aleksic, Abdullahi this season, or whether they might need a loan and regular football first? Matty Young will go out on loan again, and Simon Moore maybe replaced as no 2, potentially.

What you're left with is:

GK: Patterson
DF: Hume, Onien, Ballard, Cirkin
MF: Neil, Rigg, Enzo
FW: Roberts, Mundle, Mayenda, Isidor

Those are nailed on squad members next season, for me. Lots of decisions to be made over players, but we'll need to add possibly 4 or 5 players who are first team standard, who can go straight into starting 11. I do think the likes of Huggins and Alese are good squad members, my issue would be how fit/rusty are, and do they need a loan until Xmas.

I'm not talking about signing experienced PL players, because we won't be doing that really (we might sign the odd one). I'm talking about more young players who we can improve. But instead of them costing 500k-2m, they'll be higher up the ladder and cost maybe 6-10m each.

A perfect assessment of our position well done

Cirks shot himself in the foot when that big Brooks came on for Campbell, but Patterson saved the day like. Close

He'll have to get with it

if neil stayed on the pitch we wouldn’t be in the premier league now simple as that a hope he gets
sold in the summer
Is this the Neil that got more motm votes than anyone else. The Neil that captained us to promotion to the premier league?

2 days after one of their best achievements in my lifetime and you’re on here twisting about our club captain?

I hope you’re a mag on a windup, because some people on here get right on my nerves.

Wish the lad all the best, he's got a lot of learning still to do.

We need stronger and more maturity right across the back four.

I'm only interested in serious discussion.
Don't get any here in little old NZ, so you will have to give me a little leeway if all you do is post daft emojis.
Didn’t realise you were in NZ, should make it more obvious, by having it as your username or something along those lines

We can keep the majority of them but they can’t all play together at the same time. Most of them are good enough to dip in and out for 10 games a season.

If he’s not he’s either blind or stupid

i really like Cirkin. I think he will really kick on next season. think that league will suit him better

Dennis, I 've listened to some of the things you and other have spoken about son. You one of us now. You always will be. Anyone who goes through the mill needs people around them. We are those people son. Always a mackem now Dennis, for ever.

Was speaking to one of the groundsmen on the train back home on Sunday. They were all invited to the afterparty with the players/first-team staff.

He was saying Cirkin is the coolest bloke he's ever met. Quiet, and completely chill about anything and everything whilst looking cool as fuck.

I have a slight feeling that we might be looking in to things a bit too much. It could just be his personality.

Good post. Out of the ones we are left with, a few are in the last year of their contract, so may also be going.

This is the real situation. We have twelve players for a 25 man squad. Ten really as Rigg and Mayenda are under age and don't count towards the total, I think. IMO Huggins and Seelt (possibly Alese) need Championship loans coming back from long term injuries. They'd not get the game time they need to get fully back up to speed. Look at loans to buy if we stay up to cover these.
Aleksic, Triantis, Young and Abdullahi/Ogunsuyi need Championship loans to aid their progression. They won't get any better sat on the bench and it's a big step up even if you are proven at Championship level.
I'd be on the phone to Deadpool to see if he want's the rest.
That leaves you needing to make 8 to 10 permanent signings. We'll not be able to afford that many who will be starting XI players so a fair chunk of last season's regular starters will be playing a big part.
It's just about how you spread the transfer kitty across those 8 - 10 signings. Loads of frees and three £50m players? Or 10 £15m buys?
Going to be interesting.
