The Pep myth

Did I say that?

Oh I’ve a feeling he’s coming to the end of another cycle and he’s gonna need 1 or 2 years out. Probably needed it for a few years now.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they got away with the charges and he pissed the league next year and then that’s him done with football, or at least for a bit.
I think it's the end of Pep. He's burnt out and seems to have run out of ideas. He's never really found the way to incorporate Harland fully into a fully functioning team.

You said

“The sides of the last 25 years would murder those from yesteryear”

That’s absolutely true. But you argued that’s a reason for your 5 best teams of all time.

That doesn’t make them better teams

The Sunderland league one team would beat the Real Madrid team of the 60s.

It’s an absolutely ridiculous argument

I get what you’re saying and it’s a fair point, like I’ve said previously it’s difficult to compare eras.

To speak to your point, you could include the Busby Babes, England 66 -70, Brazil 1950, Cruyff’s Ajax…

I’ve got recency bias, I’m only 34. I just think discounting Pep as a chequebook manager and the football his teams play is ridiculous

We agree. Look at the OP again

Looking very ordinary at times this season. Would rather bore the opposition to sleep than actually have a shot. Its become possession for possession's sake, rather than probing and moving the ball with an intent. Predictable and able to be countered.

His dummy out again today massive sore loser deserved it for the way he went on at the end of the game. Total tosser

Teams are happy to let him keep the ball instead of the press press press they used to do

This is it. Very predictable. From what I saw today (only saw end of first half and then second half) they didn’t really create much clear cut.

Longest he's been at a club as manager isn't it? Time for a fresh start as he probably can't rebuild teams, replacing de bruyne will be virtually impossible

By heavyweights such as Southampton

I agree with this mind. His teams have, by and large been a joy to watch over the years. Barca, bayern and early city teams absolutely killed teams. Now they dominate the ball but don't seem as deadly and the fear factor has gone.
Has Haaland made them a worse team? Sure he scores loads but they scored about 100 in the season between aguero leaving and Haaland arriving where they played without a centre forward.
Obviously missed Rodri this season, but they seemed to be getting their groove back during the month haaland was missing with Marmoush playing. Looking more like themselves.

How many actual dynasties has he built though?

Not doubting he's a great manager but what has he "built" at any club he's been at after Barca?

Ferguson had 3 or 4 different sides at man utd. Guardiola has had to rebuild one and how's that gone?
